It will probably be a close race, but I think Palin just put McCain over the top.

Want to lay $50 on that? I'll put my money where my mouth is. I don't believe McCain can or will win this election.

I'll lay another $50 on that. are you up for the game, hellokeith?

\still think it'll be a battle 'till the bitter end...

Well you can tell you guys are Liberal, you are willing to give your money away.

I saw through a few hours of the RNC coverage. I'm not sure why but I finished packing and had nothing else to do. Anyway, my take:

-First part was an absolute snoozefest up to and including Carly Fiorina. PBS had to cut to shots of people in the crowd NOT asleep.
-Mitt Romney went from moderate conservative to whackjob in one speech. Somehow he tried to make the point that the current Supreme Court was too liberal. A couple analysts remarked that he may be trying to prepare himself for a 2012 run.
-Mike Huckabee was the best orator of the night. I disagree with him on most issues but he came across well and shifted the mood favorably for Palin.
-Rudy Giuliani was on Obama attack mode the whole time. Not a very substantive speech but did get the crowd riled up.
-Sarah Palin gave a solid if unremarkable speech. She showed she can hold her own in front of a crowd. But I'm more interested in seeing how well she can perform in a debate against Biden, or answering questions in front of a less receptive audience. I've never seen Palin or Biden debate, but based on their performances, I'd put my money on Biden.

LOL, they drug out the knocked up daughter and her boyfriend -- what a crock of shit.

It does seem really shameless to drag out that idiot Levi Johnston. He looks like he'd rather be getting a root canal.

Not to mention she's showcasing her DOWN SYNDROME BABY to the crowd. Talk about f*cked up.

That's her kid -- I got no problem with her bringing out her baby.

But that douchebag kid that knocked up Bristol -- that whole thing wreaks of backroom Republican "Let's put a brave face on the pregnancy" bullshit.

They were enganged before Palin was even seriously considered for the VP role-- so what would you prefer: that they leave out their daughter because *gasp* she's pregnant, or included her but left out her fiancee? I swear, you guys would complain no matter what they did or didn't do.

Any body that has known or been with a strong woman - that's what Palin is. A WOMAN, a real one and her speech only solidifies that - an incredible woman and a perfect running mate.

I guess your girl is pretty dumb to get swayed by about 15 min of rhetoric.

Could that be due to the location of the teleprompter??

Obama sort of did the same thing, look left then look right, like he is about to cross the street.

She's not dumb - but she's going to log in soon and tell everyone her perspective....

Are money bets allowed on Anandtech? If so, I'd wager some PayPal cash that she'll hold her own and then some against Biden!

Sure enough, I'm more excited about a Palin / Biden debate than a McCain / Obama debate.

He's keeping his money whether he bets it or not, sport.

I've got $100 on Obama with Sinsear.

You want some action, or are you just a chicken-ass bullshitter afraid to truly back up his opinion?

Well?

Which is it, Bob, you in or are you are folding and slinking away, sensitive eyes downcast? ;)

Sarah Palin will definitely bring out the conservative base, probably more than any other potential VP pick. McCain made a very wise VP choice.

Palin obliterates Obama on pretty much every level that counts to average voters, except perhaps in speech-giving. I wish she were running for Pres instead of John, and I wish I could vote for her without having to vote for John.

It will probably be a close race, but I think Palin just put McCain over the top.

well deserved attacks on the media, successful conservative women, what?

Palin is getting attacked because her nomination is like a bad joke. More experience my ass. When mccain decided to drop a nobody on the vp slot, they should have known this woudl be the result, your going to get a years worth of dirt digging in a week, as it should be.

What an ugly speech from a pretty woman.
This is why I'm glad to be democrat, and always will be that way.

Obviously the GOP has not changed since 2000, 2004 and before that.
Their theme remains the same. Division.

Us against them. You against me.
Not one word of unity or country. But I'm really disappointed with McCain the most.
I don?t know Palin, but McCain should know better.

So its clear as glass. If the republicans keep the power, we will continue to have
an ugly divided country.
The one thing Obama wants to change is that division. But as usual the GOP doesn?t get it.
The GOP can?t understand the message Obama offers.
Very ugly and divisive ticket the GOP is pushing.
And for them to utter the name of Abraham Lincoln and religion as on their side,
that alone is nothing short of bone chilling and exposes their true soul.

Good speech, yes, if your goal is to divide the country and keep it that way.

We're libertarians now. We cannot allow bets to be made on this site, for possible legal reasons. So make and confirm your bets offline. Then crow about them here. That's simply free speech. After all, we're Liberterian led now!

She was attacked because nobody knew her. After her performance tonight, that concern should subside a little. Let's get real, experience mean $hit, election is about how candidates portrait themselves and relate to their base. If we really care about experience, Obama wouldn't be the democratic nominee today.
