It is painfully obvious that those against drug testing have never owned or managed a business with employees.

"managed"? Seriously...bring restaurant staff in and it's expected and ok usually for those that can manage on their own.

What do you own though?

How the hell can you get pissed off if you're denied employment after failing a drug test? It's your right to do drugs? That's fine. But this isn't a socialist paradise here, it's also the business management's right to deny you employment for your activities which they deem risky or illegal.

On your own time or not, you're engaging in an illegal activity. Illegal activities carry inherent risks that an employer might not want to assume on your behalf.

For the idiot saying "fire him if he does show up to work stoned" are missing the point. It costs money to fire and replace someone. If management can mitigate the likelihood of an involuntary term, they're going to do it. It's common fucking sense.

I don't give a shit what you do on your own time. I also don't care if businesses won't hire you because you're risky. Not everything is a fundamental right that protects your employment status. Live with your choices.

Gosh you're really intense man, here, have a J and relax.

i get the point . Im just going to walk around in my fifth grade DARE t shirt and lay off the pot. Just wanted to thank you for the numerous PM's with your support, you know who you are, and weather its mentioned or not, there sure is alot of pot heads like me on atot.

that is all

I don't think you really understand your argument. The whole Class C thing is fodder.
OK chief.

If the employee has
A. Any contact with the clients while working.
B. A job that requires critical thinking.
or
C. A job that requires the operation of heavy machinery.

(That should cover about 90% of all jobs out there)

Then being able to pass a drug test is a must. If they don't have the self control to avoid doing drugs while applying for a job, whats to say they'll have the self control to not do drugs while working on the job?

Its like complaining "Oh I showed up to a job interview drunk and they didn't hire me. They all suck!"

As for the whole Class C crap.. Umm, yeah, You really can't tell the difference between littering while working and being in an altered mental state while working?
Testing for MJ does not tell you if the person is high, it tells you if they were high. I don't think even the most staunch supporter of MJ would suggest being high AT work is kosher.

Straw man is full of hay.

I hate to say it, but as a pretty decent handyman; Home Depot could open you up for some major injuries. Around here they don't exclude dogs and kids running around always.

I don't know what you go to Home Depot for, but kickback from any saw can kill someone.

At about 12 years old while helping my dad, somehow his wood had a nail in it, the people that prepped it just cut the head off or missed it. It kicked back about a 3' long piece of wood that went through the back door of his garage, through his pegboard, and then into the next living area 6". If anyone was sitting against that wall they'd be fucked.

I think most Home Depots are doing these kinds of cuts daily even if not stoned.

you know, this whole time, I was thinking "Office Depot"

...please ignore my previous comments.

😀

You're right, it does tell you that someone was high. It also tells you that someone doesn't have enough self restrain to avoid smoking before looking for a job.

Now, I can understand being opposed to drug testing of already employed people. However, for people that aren't already employed it works as a great method of filtering out those too stupid to knock it off for a known test.

Then my comment stands. Watch out for the paper cutters. And if you have to wear a tie, the shredder section too.

thanks for the advice.

And if any one even cares ( i doubt it) i've never been to work high (hungover yes) and the 3 real jobs i've had since 16 i've never missed a day and was a model employee, i don't go around parading saying oh look i smoke weed, most people when they find out, dont even believe me.

Thats great, and I applaud you for not going to work stoned. However, what guarantee could you offer to an employer that you won't come to work wasted? They don't know you, so they are going to rightly be very cautious.

lmao funny story

My old boss a few jobs ago was shredding some paperwork and dropped a few pages beside the shredder, leaned down to get them and got pulled down to his neck by his tie and had his face pressed aginst the on button so could not switch it off. I herd him screming from the warehouse and ran into his office to find his face pressed up against the shredder. So i yanked on the power cord figureing no problem ill unplug it, not so easy the cord was run UNDER his 300lb+ filing cabinet and i could not get it loose, after a few seconds of trying i said fuck it grabbed my knife and cut the power cord, figured what the hell i was wearing electric shock rated work boots whats the worst that can happen, so i cut it and then it shorted together and blew the breaker but at least my boss was unharmed.

it is office depot, i have no idea where home depot came from :\

oh.

alkymest, i suppose.

I still think it's week that you can't (couldn't) hold off for a week or two approaching employment--which is generally a good policy for any job.

as long as you're not the type to spark one before or during work, I think this policy is bullshit--especially for this type of job.

Besides, it seems to me that the standard working mood of the average Home Depot employee is "hungover."

I take pride in my work, and this is my first job involving computers, somthing i have a passion for, i dont think i'll have any problem getting up and going to work.

Only bad thing is the pay is shit! put down $8/hour on the application and the first thing the manager said on the interview is i cant do 8. i can do 7.50. I dont care though, having a job will keep my mind of being depressed, and i honestly just cant wait to get the ball rolling with both the job and college.
