I think Gothic 4 is being developed by an entirely different studio, Bateluer.
The major focus at this early stage of development is improving the combat model. Melee attacks are currently tethered to a stamina bar, and you can hold down the attack button to charge a strong strike. We watched as our hero did battle against a human enemy yet to be programmed with any kind of AI ? he just swung away randomly, much like you probably did if you played Gothic 3. It?s early and difficult to get a gauge on how deep the combat system will go ? at this stage it looks rather simplistic. But we?ve yet to see the new magic abilities, archer mechanics, or the deep weapon and armor customization system. Every weapon or piece of armor can be broken down into base components, and you?ll be able to mix and match sword hilts with blades or chest pieces with chain male.

we're told it'll be slightly small than the land mass in Gothic 3. Dreamcatcher representative commented that there'll be easier ways to move through the world, though didn't specify exactly what they meant. There will still be different climate zones including desert, snow, forest, and large underground areas filled with molten lava. Since weather will play a larger part in this game and the skies can be manipulated by the player, you'll be able to do neat tricks like instigate a torrential downpour, triggering guard NPCs to take shelter in houses and giving you a clear avenue past a guard post or into a town.
As for how lengthy an experience players should expect, "We're aiming at 60 to 80 hours. It's the full epic RPG," said Podilchuk. "We're not looking at something of the Fable variety here."

Anyone ever played the old pc action game Blade of Darkness?? Why can't anyone replicate that game's combat in a rpg game like Gothic? Obviously tweak it as necessary but it was so visceral and I think it would work like an adventure/rpg game like this. The combat in the gothic games (and Two Worlds) were always fairly lame.
The game takes place some 10 years after the events in Gothic 3. The lead character from the previous games returns only as a NPC, this time with a name: King Rhobar III. You play a new character, a young villager eager to prove his worth to the father of his would-be fiancé.
The story in ArcaniA follows along with the conclusion of Gothic 3. 10 years have passed by and the world has changed. The Southern Isles are in turmoil which allows for many adventures for the Nameless Hero to partake in.
The decisions you make will not only affect the Southern Isles, but the entire world. Throw in a mix of familiar faces and new acquaintances that will either aid you in your journey or thwart your attempts, and you have yourself the makings of an epic journey.
I did it again and pre-ordered G4- ArcaniA so expect my feedback next month, got it for a great price so should be worth it(hope so).

Arcania: Gothic IV doesn't run as smoothly as I would have liked, but this could just be due to the preview build I was playing. There were also some sketchy character animations here and there and a few minor glitches, but nothing game-breaking. Even if these issues are present in the final retail copy of the game, the expansive world of Arcania could make up for the technical setbacks
Bateluer: its been a long time since a pre-order game was a let down for me,think the last one was Dungeon Lords, anyway found another recent preview over at 1up http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3169534 ,
