That looks pretty good. They seem to have gotten a good feeling for the whole atmosphere and everything. This could be good. Hope it is.

As much I want to get excited about Gothic 4, its hard. Gothic 3 left a foul taste in people's mouthes. Spellbound took over the support of the game and helped with the most recent 1.6 Community Patch was released in Feb 08. From reading a few posts on the G3 forums, 1.7 is still several months off.

I think Gothic 4 is being developed by an entirely different studio, Bateluer.

It is, Spellbound. I still won't be preordering it, nor will I be first in line on release day to buy it.

Clipping plane is kinda close in some of those shots, not so in others.

Regardless, looks like some very nice natural environments. I was going to check out Gothic 3, but after hearing about the bugginess, I avoided it. Might have to look into this one.

I don't understand why people hated Gothic 3 so much. It was the only game that had forests sitting in the air, skeletons that would suddenly become invisible and would kill you since you could not see them and so much stuttering. My hard drive has suffered so much on this game. Oh and I usually spent more time loading it then really playing it, since it always crashed after half an hour.

I remember that I've tried to play it again some two months ago, being terribly bored and put every single patch that was there, community, official, everything and even if it had way fewer bugs, the stuttering was still there, the game always loved more to swap then to actually use the ram.

Seriously now, I don't expect to much from Gothic 4. Yes the screen shots are great, but so were gothic 3's. A game that was so awful, can't have a great successor.

I took a copy of Two Worlds and Gothic 3 and slammed them together to create Gothic 4! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES

Gamespot's first look at Gothic 4 here.

The major focus at this early stage of development is improving the combat model. Melee attacks are currently tethered to a stamina bar, and you can hold down the attack button to charge a strong strike. We watched as our hero did battle against a human enemy yet to be programmed with any kind of AI ? he just swung away randomly, much like you probably did if you played Gothic 3. It?s early and difficult to get a gauge on how deep the combat system will go ? at this stage it looks rather simplistic. But we?ve yet to see the new magic abilities, archer mechanics, or the deep weapon and armor customization system. Every weapon or piece of armor can be broken down into base components, and you?ll be able to mix and match sword hilts with blades or chest pieces with chain male.

Anyone ever played the old pc action game Blade of Darkness?? Why can't anyone replicate that game's combat in a rpg game like Gothic? Obviously tweak it as necessary but it was so visceral and I think it would work like an adventure/rpg game like this. The combat in the gothic games (and Two Worlds) were always fairly lame.

IGN have a 3 page first look at Gothic 4 here .

we're told it'll be slightly small than the land mass in Gothic 3. Dreamcatcher representative commented that there'll be easier ways to move through the world, though didn't specify exactly what they meant. There will still be different climate zones including desert, snow, forest, and large underground areas filled with molten lava. Since weather will play a larger part in this game and the skies can be manipulated by the player, you'll be able to do neat tricks like instigate a torrential downpour, triggering guard NPCs to take shelter in houses and giving you a clear avenue past a guard post or into a town.

As for how lengthy an experience players should expect, "We're aiming at 60 to 80 hours. It's the full epic RPG," said Podilchuk. "We're not looking at something of the Fable variety here."

Ugh, I do not have fond memories of G3 at all. In fact, all I really remember is numerous quest bugs, mindless clicking hack-n-slash, and some of the most repetitive/unimaginative quests I've ever seen . At least it looked pretty enough.

Yes! I've actually wondered the same thing. Taking the BOD combat system and applying it to any action RPG like Gothic, Two Worlds, etc, would be prefect. It seems crazy that it hasn't been done already. I've gone back and played BOD on many occasions simply because the combat system is so great.

Maybe that level of coding is above what most developers are able to do. Who knows..

Very short Gothic 4 preview here http://www.hookedgamers.com/pc/arcania_gothic_4/preview/article-742.html .

The game takes place some 10 years after the events in Gothic 3. The lead character from the previous games returns only as a NPC, this time with a name: King Rhobar III. You play a new character, a young villager eager to prove his worth to the father of his would-be fiancé.

Btw relese date is 12th October 2010 ,can't wait :).

Its not a gothic game without stun-locking boars.

Those Gothic 3 boars should play street fighter I think they would nail 1-frame links very consistently.

I found a preview over@platformnation from last month that also has some screenshots and trailer http://www.platformnation.com/2010/08/01/arcania-gothic-4-preview/ .

The story in ArcaniA follows along with the conclusion of Gothic 3. 10 years have passed by and the world has changed. The Southern Isles are in turmoil which allows for many adventures for the Nameless Hero to partake in.

The decisions you make will not only affect the Southern Isles, but the entire world. Throw in a mix of familiar faces and new acquaintances that will either aid you in your journey or thwart your attempts, and you have yourself the makings of an epic journey.

Bateluer: its been a long time since a pre-order game was a let down for me,think the last one was Dungeon Lords, anyway found another recent preview over at IGN http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1116230p1.html ,

Arcania: Gothic IV doesn't run as smoothly as I would have liked, but this could just be due to the preview build I was playing. There were also some sketchy character animations here and there and a few minor glitches, but nothing game-breaking. Even if these issues are present in the final retail copy of the game, the expansive world of Arcania could make up for the technical setbacks
