I always get my girl something that is hobby related. Over the past couple of years I got her a leather bound garden journal off Esty with some personal inscriptions burned into the leather cover.
She likes cooking to so I bought her some Pampered Chef colanders because the ones she had were pretty crappy.
This year I bought her a Japanese Lilac tree and a Autumn Gold Gingko tree because she wanted more trees in the yard.

I guess my point is just think about the things your girl is into and get her something that complements them.

whatever you do, don't get her something that will end up with her repacking it and giving it to someone else as a xmas gift.

So gift cards are usually the best.

Typically for family members, i will use a full paycheck amount, if you can financially afford it.
So i tend to save 1/4 of my check 1 month prior so i can meet that 1 full paycheck without stress, unless your already living paycheck to paycheck.

Which then i recommend a awesome dinner at home with lots of deserts.
