Got some GEIL Golden Dragon PC 3500 DONT WORK

I cant get this ram to work in any mobo i try it in. I've tried using differnet ram and upping the voltage and lowering the timings but this ram just won't boot up. There is this little LED light that turns on red, does that mean that the ram is defective?

also, are you running an amd system, or intel? ive heard geil and amd doesnt mix too well sometimes.

ok I got it to work on another system. But it only shows up as 256 MB of ram. I looked at the sticker on the ram itself and it says 512 MB stick. What the hell is going on? I think i'm gonna return this crap. Shame on newegg!!

the memory itself is extremely light and it doesnt appear to be as packed as my stick of 512 pc 2700 ram sitting next to me. I'm pretty sure it is 256 MB and not 512 MB. Damn another lesson learned i guess, don't buy what you can't trust. No more geil or OCZ for me, only Corsair, Kingston, and Mushkin from now on.

I just ordered a 1GB pack of GD3200 from Newegg yesterday and it's shipping today. I certainly hope I don't have these problems cuz it's going into a LANParty NFII board.:frown:

The memory itself is not as packed as the other modules because it uses a different packaging type. It uses smaller chips with higher densities so it can use less chips to equal the same amount. I think your systems don't like the RAM.

Correct. They're using a new packaging method like the GeForce FX cards use, without "legs" coming off the chips. Supposedly these run cooler and negate the need for heat spreaders.

Or so they say.

well whatever the case may be, this ram sucks balls. It won't boot up in my system (AOPEN i865 G mobo), but it booted up in a P4s533 system with nominal settings. Its garbage memory that only shows up as 256 mb. The fact that it wont even boot up at SPD timings in either systems is even more evidence. I'm not suppsoed to have to go through this crap just installing some memory. Its goin back, GEIL is crap and thats that. Im gettin some new Hyperx to replace it, which is reliable and works at SPD timings.

Huh... I thought the fact that my PC3200 RAM has never even been warm to the touch negated the need for heat spreaders 😉

why do you guys say that???

have you experienced geil Cesar?

i have geil gold dragon pc3700 2 x 256

and i can say that is great stuff on my abit ic7

it is running 234 mhz @ 2.5-7-4-3 @ 3.0 volts

geil does require higher voltages sometimes but that doesn't make it crap...

and what about ocz???

they have GREAT products and GREAT customer service... people keep talking about how they RMA sticks to OCZ and get back new ones in like 2-3 days...

i wouldn't bad mouth these companies though they've had a bad past history... lots of people will tell you how they would pick OCZ over corsair anyday....

go visit here and check out all the people using geil and ocz over corsair

man.. unless you've tried it, don't knock it...

my POS geil pc3500u wouldnt even run 200mhz @ 3-3-3-8!!!

NOW (after RMA)

my geil is running 222mhz @ 2-3-3-11!!!!!

oh yeah, and i have an 8rda+ a1/c1 + barton 2500 now at 230 2.5-3-3-11!

dual channel is so fun! must try vdd mod for higher fsb!

hope my 230w psu isnt limiting me 😛

hehe... booting with 10 x 235 @ 2.5-3-3-11 2.8v, must stabilize somehow...

yes, it's hit and miss sometimes but that by no means warrants you to say that it is crap because it wouldn't work for you...

corsair has it's share of problems too...

kingston has it's share of problems as well...

just because ocz and geil have a bad past do people (like you) go around saying their products are crap...

have you read the AT review of the OCZ pc3700 gold???

i don't think it is CRAP by any means...

Kingston and crucial are the most reliable memories, however kingston's are generally faster it remains my favorite brand.

Corsair can go very fast, but it is unstable and has compatibility issues from time to time. Just go check how many people have problems with corsair and the new gigabyte mobo😛 For hardcore OCers i guess.

No experience with Geil, but it doesnt look so hot atm😀

I said Geil is crap and not OCZ! in fact OCZ is better than Geil mouduls. If one of u guys decides to buy good ram look for Corsair, OCZ and Kingston HX ! I have Corsair TwinX 3200LL 512mb amazing ram!😎

I like crucial. 30 Day compability guarantee.

My two sticks of 512mb PC3200 is running happily along at 2.5-3-3-7 at DDR400 along with my 2.6C @3.25 (5:4 ratio, 250MHZ fsb).🙂

Geil is crap because it would not even post on two of my systems. One of them is a CURRENT i865 g mobo, and the other is the venerable Asus P4S533. So basically If a company that makes ram that wont even post on either of these two extremes in terms of P4 motherboards (SIS vs. Intel chipsets) then I can say wholeheartedly that they suck.

you got a bad stick... whoopdeedoo... cuz no one EVER gets a bad stick of Corsair or Kingston... no one has EVER had to RMA a stick of ram back to corsair before...

suck it up... RMA it...

just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone else will...

lots of people including myself have had really good results with geil...

Geil even now has pc4000 that can run 2.5-3-3-7 ... can kingston do that? can corsair do that? i think not...

Well Corsair can do 2.5-3-3-7 if they want. I am sure they will if the market is asking for it!
It's all business you know

actually with GEIL you have a lot of bad sticks. You end up with a lot of sticks that can't even hit rated speeds. You don't have the type of quality control that you do with Corsair or Mushkin or Kingston.

geil has turned a lot of things around especially with their reputation...

so let me ask you this...

if you knew or thought they had such a bad rep and were selling LOTS of bad sticks or sticks that couldn't hit rated speeds, then why the heck did you buy their ram???

if anyone looks foolish now... it's you...
