LOL at you both. Thats good.

I've had a few low speed bonks with no decernable damage in my driving career, but not accidents that I reported.

Just talked to my ins guy. He said basically to get a couple estimates so I have a good idea what the repair will cost and then talk to her insurance to get the ball rolling with repairs and such.

I got rear-ended in December and the insurance company for the offender called me and siad they were going to take care of the repairs and they mentioned three shops close to where I live and said that, if I went to any of those, the shop could just call in and get authorization and all would be taken care of. I was familiar with the work done by two of the shops, so just went in, gave them the car and the case number, and went back to pick it up upon completion of the work.

Bottom line - you might not need to go out and get estimates. Contact the woman's insurance and see if they have a similar way to handle things. Good luck!

DON'T CALL your insurance agent!

Just calling your agent may result in a rise in your premiums.

ONLY deal with the other party's insurance unless you just run up against a wall.

Edit: Ooops...too late.

I already called him. He basically just said "Deal with the her insurance company", so I really doubt there's going to be a change in rates. ;)

I'm getting them anyway because I want to make sure there aren't any non-visible problems like alignment.

Well at this point, all he knows is that I got rear-ended. He's got no accident report, claim, or any other concrete evidence of what happened so I don't see how my rates could be affected.

Just got back from the dealer for the estimate. Looks like I'll need new brackets for the bumper and a new hitch. They're supposed to fax me the full writeup and dollar amount later today and then I'll get on the phone with the woman's insurance guy.

Yay, what a pain in my ass. :frown:

What is my course of action from here on out to insure my car is properly inspected/fixed and my insurance doesn't change? I assume I just get an estimate and then contact her ins. company, but just wanted to make sure. I haven't been in any kind of wreck since I was 17.

You shouldn't do anything with your insurance. You should contact the lady's insurance company with her policy number, police report, etc.... If you were injured in the accident, contact a lawyer immediately and take their advice to protect yourself.

That's the plan. I just wanted an estimate from my dealer in hand before I start talking to her ins guy.

you will be fine... i was rear ended here in Maryland. The officer took down the appropriate info and I told the other guy's insurance company that they should pay for everything. My premiums have not gone up. Just show proof that the officer said it was the other person's fault and reep the rewards of a new bumper!

good luck! Im with geico by the way. They have been great!

That's what the guy said. We're only talking a few hundred for repairs, so I think it's to their advantage to just write a check and clear the claim rather than drawing the whole thing out.

Ah...still haven't heard from the other parties' insurance to finalize my claim against them...tired of driving a car with a scuffed bumper/rear-quarter. :(

Add stickers and a wing to draw attention away from the scuffs. :p

How about upgrading the factory spoiler to carbon-fiber? :p
