Got pulled over and ticketed for having a License Plate Holder!?

Alright so he didn't exactly pull me over b/c of the license, it's b/c he noticed I was missing the inspections sticker (don't ask me how he spotted it on the road), and just so happened to ticket me for this too. Needless to say, he was being an ass and tried to ticket me for everything he could possibly think of (also made me wait in the car for 45 minutes knowing I was in a hurry... all while he sat in his car and gave me nasty smirks if I ever looked up to see what was going on).

So anyway when he handed me the tickets, I asked about one of them which was labeled:
Improper Display - Fictious Plates (Statute No. 39:3-33) *I live in NJ btw*

When I turn the ticket over it says 'Unclear Plates' for 3-33

I asked him what was improper, and he told me I was not allowed to have a license plate holder. I replied, "it's not blocking a single piece of information, why am I not allowed to have it?" He just simply said it's against the law to have a license plate holder? He was like, you're only supposed to mount the plates directly on. Has anyone heard of this? Sounds absolutely ridiculous to me!

Do you look like a teenage punk ? I think cops get off on busting those kinds... and NJ isn't the best place for people on the road in the first place.

<-- wears a backwards cap sometimes... and should really stop doing that while driving like a maniac.

Why are you doing that in a ton of threads? It's bad enough for dumbasses who do it, but I don't concider you a dumbass. Well, yet.

NJ sucks, what can I say...

I've heard of those laws. Pretty much an excuse to give people tickets...I mean, a lot of DEALERSHIPS put license plate frames on (that's what you're talking about, yes)?

btw, it's LUDICROUS.

I don't have much love for the other 2. 😉 They've been out of the spotlight for a while and aren't doing anything much new. JA has 3 movies for 2005. 😀 w00t.

Anyway, I'll post them for those 2 if I happen to come across some good ones.

Good. Because it saddens me to see them being ignored like that. 😛

i had the same problem here in the great state of wv. i really don't understand why it would be illegal for the clear ones, the ones that are "smoke" color i can understand.

Just to describe a little for you, this would include the standard baggy clothes, backward baseball cap/beanie/"alternative" hat, thin facial hair, and a phony "laid-back tough guy" attitude that's trying desperately to be accepted by acting like they don't care, but actually care very much about every little thing that happens because they're extremely self-conscious and have little self-esteem.

Or they're really teenage punks.

in texas, the license plate law was you can have one, but it better not obscure or block any letter of the state's name or motto or whatever

basically if it doesnt interfere with ANY information youre fine

that is just unfair in NJ and other states though.

Yes, it came with the car, pretty much looks like this

Like I said, It doesn't block any info, certainly not any part of the Plate Number. I just see no point in this law!

Because a lot of those 'clear" ones are designed to obscure the lettering at sharp angles (so you don't get tickets from red-light cams).

I really just think he was like, "hmm some college kid driving an Audi... probably some spoiled brat... why don't I just give him a hard time and see how much sh*t I can get him for"

Which isn't true, I bought the car myself, and it's not even that nice (96 A4)... but even if it was, I don't appreciate any kind of discrimination that goes on whether it be due to race/ethnicity/gender/or social class. Sometimes I wish I could see the records of cops in terms of who they ticket (percent male to female, cuacasion to minorities, nice cars to sh*tty cars)

OK, I'll probably come off as a cynical bastard, but...

Can you change the world? No, so learn to live with it. Find the loopholes in the system, rather than trying to change the system.
