It depends on how you think the friendship will be. Admitting your feelings for her and being rejected may cause saw awkwardness. If you don't want to be a platonic friend with this girl, then just don't do anything about it. Her "friends" comment is one of the most used comments by women in rejecting men. Women do not want to be perceived as evil, so the "friends" speech is just a way to not make it hurt as bad, or so they think. She likes you as a person, but she has no romantic interest in you whatsoever. Please do not try to understand where you screwed up (it's possible that you didn't at all). Women will never be understood and their thought process is totally out of whack. You can use her as a way of hooking up with other girls. I suggest moving on, being polite and courteous to her, but never expecting any sort of romantic relationship.

Edit: I will tell you where you slipped up. This was something that I came to learn. Of course, it does not guarantee 100% success, but it's a lot easier to deal with early on. You mentioned that you were in love with this girl "for the longest time." If you want to get somebody to possibly think of you romantically, you have to get into that mode early on. True, they may want to be "friends first" but get a girl's number, talk with her, ask her out to lunch or dinner if you want. I'm not suggesting overdoing it or getting married to a girl you just knew in 3 months. You have to take your time, but you have to be upfront first.

Of course, it is all trial and error. Every situation is different, and there are so many variables that it is not even funny. If a girl likes you, she'll like you despite some stupid mistake you may have made (I'm not talking about being drunk and having an orgy, but early on in the relationship when you wonder if you should or should not call, if you said something wrong...etc.)

Unless high school has changed a lot in the 16 years since I graduated there are slutty girls in your school. Am I right? Well......that's the tail you need to be chasing. Trust me, 10 years from now you won't even remember what chick you were banging in high school. Just grab yourself a wild one, enjoy the ride for as long as you can, then move on to the next one. You're too young to be worrying about relationships and all that touchy feely crap. Just bang, bang, bang!

I got rejected, but moved on, and now we're good friends (again), better friends than before really (didn't know her as well).
 
dude, you don't talk to them about it, you just start making out, and then after that you can ask whatever.

now thats self confidence. the whole talking thing never works out too good.


edit: and im with bobby, its all about timing. "been in love with her forever" - you should have made a move a long time ago. girls have this short "consideration zone" where if you don't step up to the plate in the first couple months you might as well consider yourself in friend zone.

if i could relive it all i would change my HS experience first. i would have gotten rid of the b!tch that i dated for 3 years of HS and focused more on sports, school, partying and honing my pickup skills (not that they are anything to brag about now). anyways college will be the best time of your life. you are away from home, have tons of freetime, and you are learning to do what you will do for the rest of your life. my advice is say fvck HS and hang out with your friends you will need them later. go to college, go crazy the first year but don't get arrested, and then write off said first year as "eh, it was my freshman year." believe me your freshman year is like a license to kill with no consequences.
 
Young girsl are stupid and immature. They generally cant tell a good guy from a bad one. They just like superficial stuff. Dont get serious with rejection.
