as an amd fan I can officialy say I don't care :) unless you have some sort of super-am2 that wipes the floor with the other boring processors, you can keep it op

It's going to be tough for AMD. Intel's changing the rules and making dual core the std. Intel can do this since they have multiple 65nm/300mm factories in full swing.

For AMD, dual core requires about 2X the silicon and their capacity is already stretched pretty thin. They are also behind in 65nm technology. Dual core for AMD stresses their capacity and cost structure big time.

AMD sells it's DC chips ata premium because they take up more die space than a single core chip and AMD can make mor eprofit on it, so why shoot itself in the leg until it really needs too. AMD is limite dby its capacity that it can produce about 30000 wafers per month, thus you want to make the most profit per chip

A problem would still be manufacturing costs.

They'll pay the same to make a 3800+ as a '3400+' [1.6].

The process is now mature enough that most likely the majority of chips meet the bottom line. Anything lower, and they're just downbinning chips unnecessarily.

So how is the memory tweaking going? Any specs you can give us on the 4000 model? Core, cache, bus speed, etc.
