i dated a state trooper for a while and we'd be talking on the phone while he was working and he'd say "hold on, gotta pull this one over", and leave the phone on the seat. if the person was drunk or a real idiot, but didn't seem like he/she would cause a big problem, he'd come back and put the phone in his pocket and say "you gotta hear this one" and then let me listen to how dumb the person would sound.

that's more fun than even being a cop...all the hilarity and none of the danger.

(in my defense, i'd always ask him "are you sure you're supposed to be doing this??!")

I cant imagine not drinking and driving. I usually go to 7-11 and grab a Big Gulp*. Then I pop my favorite mp3 mix into the player, put the straw in my mouth and enjoy life baby! :p

*=Only one soda or two sodas per week, otherwise water, etc.

I just realized..this may very well have been the first time someone has ever told me they had "two beers" -- and actually been telling the truth!

To be fair, time of day means NOTHING because not everyone operates on the same clock.

I drink WAY more often in the morning and early afternoon than at night, because I work most often at night. There's no difference between someone getting off a day job and having beers at 4pm, and someone getting off graveyard and having beers at 6am.

Now once you throw in other shifts (like swing or staggered), and self-employment, you're left with the inescapable conclusion that time of day and day of week mean nothing.

Having worked third shift for a few years, we ended up at bars (strip clubs, really, since they're the only ones open at that time) at 6-7 AM more than a few times after work.

Some amazing people-watching at those hours, in those places :)

It's always "two beers" isn't it? No matter how fucked up they are..."oh, I had maybe two beers earlier tonight."

BTW, do you mean 3rd DUI in your career, or 3rd one tonight?

If it's the 3rd one in your career, how long have you been a cop?

(if you've been a LEO more than a year and only caught 3 DUI's...you ain't paying attention!) :p

This is my second one this year. We're not a busy department, and yes, I need to improve my hunting skills. :p

3 in one night? Dude there's not enough time...this one took over four hours from start to finish.

so what led you to believe the suspect was impaired?

Operation of the vehicle, general demeanor and behavior of the driver, and subsequent failure of standardized field sobriety tests.

This is the type of thread where we need the ability to tell whether someone edited their post.

I was about to storm in here to tell you to get off the roads... until I realized you were a cop getting drunks off the roads :D
