sounds like you screwed up and just did not see a car that you really should have.

shit happens, though the whole my car sways into other lanes thing is kind of "wat".

I advise using more caution while driving.

That's not the intersection where that happened, is it?

Yes it is.
You have clear sight to your right for at least a quarter mile.

Yeah I know. The car was where I drew it. With a 25 mph speed limit I thought there was no way the car could make it in that distance by the time i passed 4 lanes. I was wrong. Or another car appeared in my blind spot.
You don't judge by speed limits. Also, there's no magical cannon that shoots cars out into blind spots in that area.

Tonight I hit a 2003 Chrysler. I was at a T turning left onto a 4 lane road *2 lanes in each direction*. I checked to make sure I have enough time to make the turn and I thought I did. However when I was just finishing the turn a car popped out of no where and I hit them in the rear panel. There is no damage to my car and only a minor dent and plastic marks on theres.

So we pull over and trade information when an officer pulls up. She then proceeds to take our stories down and takes my information. Then she returns and gives me an infraction for negligent driving second degree. Now this ticket is for $550 which seems a bit crazy. Also I have been looking up other people who got this and it seems for speeding. I see no reason why I should have been charged since i wasn't speeding or driving dangerously.

If it makes any difference I was driving a 2006 f150 and this is my first ticket/infraction.

I'm thinking of pleading not guilty and either asking for failure to yield or failure to merge. This is in a small town and this officer is a real asshole. She pulled over someone for going 27 or 28 in a 25 going uphill.

Any thoughts or suggestions.

Your story doesn't make sense. Comon, tell the truth.

If you're an experienced driver, I don't see how this could have happened. Your description of the accident makes me believe that you're a new driver with little to no experience. If this is the case, take your lumps and learn from them. If you are an experienced driver, you were either not paying attention, or you're just a horrible driver.

When you say "popped out of nowhere" I have a feeling he was behind your A pillar for a bit (happens to me sometimes, even if I make a full stop at the stop sign). Just keep watching both directions when you turn and keep it slow.

Sounds like you're at fault and be glad that it was a minor accident.

Definitely appeal the ticket and see what happens.

Yes it was my fault. Its a long truck so it sometimes sways into the adjacent lanes while making turns.

I like my F150. Now I like my friends Tundra more but they cost about 3x as much as I paid for mine.

sway? WTF learn to fucking drive the truck.

from what you say happened and the pic yeah you are at fault. but i would go to court and get the ticket reduced.

but damn man if the truck is "swaying" into other lanes of traffic learn to drive it or get a smaller vehicle.

Go ahead and tell the judge that when you go to court for this ticket....

Since you were both nice about it and it was minor and everything went smoothly, I wouldn't have nailed you with a ticket if I was the officer. I'd leave that to your insurance company lol.

Jesus people here are farking assholes. I hope all of you who are pummeling the OP for not driving 100% perfectly wind up with 100 points on your licenses.

That said, OP it happens. Sometimes cars are going faster than you judge and though they SHOULDN'T make it to where you are, they do. Sometimes like EGGO said they are behind your A Pillar and seem to pop out of nowhere. Sometimes (as happened with me) they decide to not look and make a right hand turn and become in your line of traffic, even though you had right of way on the road.

You can plead it down to a failure to yield probably, which should be about $80 and 0-2 points. Good Luck!

You are kidding, right? It was for negligence. You were negligent. How else do you explain hitting the car if not through negligence? You fvcked up, that is what the ticket is saying.

BTW, a long truck does not "sway" into the other lane. Holy hell you should be glad you didn't cause a major accident.

BTW, an accident can happen to any of us, but only if we internalize our mistake, and in this case $550 is a big internalization, can we truly learn from it and prevent its recurrence.

An F-150 is not a long truck. My Volvo 770 with a 53' trailer is a long truck(and occasionally a 57' trailer). And it didn't sway when I made left turns. Or right turns. And I never hit anyone with it. Take the bus next time.

Provided.

You do realize when making a turn, you're supposed to go to the nearest lane, right? So GREEN is what should've happened - you should;ve ended up in the left lane of the wide road.

I agree with a few points in this thread and disagree with 1...

agree:
people here are assholes
you're supposed to turn into the closer lane (and even then, not at the same time another vehicle is close by in the next lane), learn to drive

disagree:
MS Paint and MS Word references... be impartial to software companies please!

Car probably turned right onto the street, you hit them. That is negligent.

And turn into the NEAREST lane. If you want to be safe don't turn until BOTH lanes are clear and proceed to turn into the nearest lane.

You are supposed to turn in to the CLOSE lane of traffic, not the far one.

This. Learn to fucking drive.

I turned into the closest lane. Then as soon as i entered it I started going into the second lane. Thinking it was still clear and glancing and seeing nothing. And no my truck doesnt fucking sway into the other lane every day. When I under estimate the turn sometimes its a little wide but its rare. The only time I wouldnt correct it is when it sways over into the shoulder.

You suck at driving, just admit it. I have driven a 24 foot long uhaul truck that was barely functional and it never "swayed" into other lanes.
