Because your state is corrupt and raping the rest of the country.

You should be on a "formulated" gas with all the pollution your refineries alone put into the air.

We do have formulated blend (winter and summer) gas in the Houston region and the refineries have EPA mandated emission controls on the production equipment.

We're not hammered with state/local taxes like the crooks in Illinois have forced upon those who live there.

Refinery blast kills 24 in Venezuela, dozens hurt

A huge explosion rocked Venezuela's biggest oil refinery early Saturday, killing at least 24 people and injuring more than 50 others in the deadliest disaster in memory for the country's key oil industry.

Balls of fire rose over the Amuay refinery, one of the largest in the world, in video posted on the Internet by people who were nearby at the time.

Those killed included a 10-year-old boy, and at least 53 people were injured, Falcon state Gov. Stella Lugo said on state television

Amuay is part of the Paraguana Refinery Complex, which also includes the adjacent Cardon refinery. Together, the two refineries process about 900,000 barrels of crude per day and 200,000 barrels of gasoline.

Venezuela is a major supplier of oil to the U.S. and a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Gasoline Jumps With Crude Oil Futures on Supply Threats

Gasoline climbed to the highest in almost four months and oil gained the most in a week after a refinery explosion in Venezuela killed 39 people and Tropical Storm Isaac shut rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.

About 24 percent of U.S. oil production and 8.2 percent of natural gas output from the Gulf of Mexico has been halted as Isaac strengthened.

“The market is reacting to this temporary supply risk” for gasoline and oil, said Carsten Fritsch, an analyst at Commerzbank AG in Frankfurt. “The temporary shutdown of refineries in the Gulf will also lower gasoline supplies.”

Gas prices could go higher because of Isaac

Gas prices are headed up again in the Chicago area and experts say they could be going even higher over the next few days.

The jump in prices can be blamed partly on Tropical Storm Isaac brewing in the Gulf and partly on the Labor Day holiday.
The Chicago may be far from the path of Isaac, but it is not immune from the impact.

A fill up will be even more pricey in the coming days. With Isaac threatening to disrupt the supply of gasoline

Gas prices in Chicago highest in the nation

Average gas prices in Chicago are the highest in the nation and even exceed the cost in Hawaii, according to AAA Chicago.

The average price of unleaded regular gasoline in Chicago was $4.37 a gallon Tuesday, 61 cents a gallon above the national average and nearly 13 cents above the Honolulu area.

“That’s very, very unusual,” AAA spokeswoman Beth Mosher, said of Chicago prices exceeding those in Hawaii.

Mosher expects prices to climb due to the potential hurricane.

“We’ve seen about 1 billion barrels a day in production down due to precautions that oil refineries are taking,” because of hurricane concerns, Mosher said. “That’s having an impact across the country.”

Isaac Causes National Gas Price Bump

Yesterday drivers in much of the country were hit with the biggest one-day jump in gasoline prices in 18 months.

Gasbuddy.com says the national average price of a gallon of gas jumped almost 5 cents in one day to $3.80.

Prices are expected to continue to climb through Labor Day weekend.

Illinois warns gas stations against price gouging

Illinois gasoline stations have been put on notice that authorities are watching them for any price gouging in the event Tropical Storm Isaac disrupts fuel supplies from the Gulf of Mexico.

Under state law, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office can investigate gas prices in cases where a natural disaster disrupts supply.

She said Wednesday her office will be watching to see if price increases are justified by a spike in wholesale prices or if they're the result of illegal gouging.

Madigan says Illinois drivers hitting the roads during the Labor Day weekend should expect to see higher prices, in part because of the storm.

Oil prices rise on Bernanke speech

The price of oil jumped 1.7 percent Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke made clear in a speech that the central bank will do more to revive the U.S. economy.

If the Fed reduces the cost of borrowing, it could boost demand for the energy needed to fuel growth and make oil and other commodities more attractive investments.

"With interest rates near zero, people look for somewhere to put their money. One of those places is the oil market," said energy analyst and consultant Jim Ritterbusch.

U.S. retail gasoline prices surged over the past week after the storm forced several Gulf Coast refineries to shut down or operate at lower rates.

The average retail gasoline price rose less than a penny to $3.83 per gallon Friday according to the Oil Price Information Service, AAA, and Wright Express.

Tom Kloza said he expects average retail prices to creep slightly higher by Saturday.

http://news.yahoo.com/oil-gas-firms-restore-output-isaac-193622071--finance.html?_esi=1

Oil and gas firms work to restore output after Isaac

Nearly 95 percent of oil and 68 percent of natural gas production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico remained shut as of Friday

The idled refineries represented 5 percent of total U.S. capacity. Offshore production from the U.S. Gulf of Mexico -- most of which remained shut -- typically makes up 23 percent of U.S. oil production and 7 percent of U.S. natural gas output.

To bring refining throughput levels along the Gulf Coast back to near pre-storm rates could take at least five to 10 days since plants will restart slowly for safety reasons, according to a source at a major Gulf Coast refiner, who asked not to be named.

ALLIANCE REFINERY FLOODING

Uncertainty remained about one refinery's prospects for restarting. Phillips 66 said that parts of its 247,000-bpd Alliance refinery in Belle Chasse, Louisiana were inundated with two feet of water after Isaac-related flooding.

SPR CRUDE LOAN
Marathon Petroleum Corp said its 490,000-bpd refinery in Garyville, Louisiana, was operating at reduced rates. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) said Marathon will receive a loan of 1 million barrels of crude from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to supply the refinery with crude it needs to ramp up to normal processing rates.

"This is a small, limited time swap in response to Isaac and should not have a major impact on crude prices," said Bob McNally, head of the Washington-based consulting firm The Rapidan Group.

The DOE said it continues to analyze a broader release of crude from its SPR in response to any crude supply disruptions.

The DOE will "keep all options on the table to address additional or sustained oil supply issues," it said in a Friday statement.

CRUDE IMPORT TERMINALS, GAS AND POWER

Facilities that receive U.S. crude imports were re-opening on Friday from Isaac-related shutdowns this week.

The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), which receives up to 13 percent of U.S. crude imports, has restarted deliveries from its onshore storage facilities at Clovelly, Louisiana and expects to restart offshore crude tanker offloadings as soon as possible, a spokeswoman said.

Many states seeing record highs for time of year

Average price is $4.35 a gallon in Chicago

For Labor Day weekend, GasBuddy.com said, American consumers in Connecticut and 44 other states will likely see the highest fuel prices they’ve ever seen at this time of year.

Only motorists in Alaska, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming will be spared from record-high prices.

The national average now is $3.80 per gallon, which is 18 cents more than a year ago, and eight states have an average price today at $4 a gallon or higher. “Gas in New York City is averaging $4.06 a gallon,” DeHaan said. “Los Angeles is at $4.15 a gallon, and those are relative bargains compared to the $4.35 a gallon we’re paying now in Chicago.”

Motorists swallow sky-high Labor Day weekend gas prices

Motorists hit the road in large numbers this Labor Day weekend, undeterred by gas prices that are the highest ever heading into the holiday in part due to Hurricane Isaac, which forced the closure of oil refineries on the Gulf Coast.

The average price of regular gas nationally was $3.83 per gallon on Friday, 21 cents higher than a year ago

Monday will likely easily beat the Labor Day record of $3.68 set in 2008
