For the record, I might not have fired someone in that situation, depending on how they explained it to me. Not what the story is - I've heard them all - but how they presented their excuse. There have been a couple who did a similar thing early in their probation period, and gave me a good BS story. I don't worry about giving a second chance, though, because the slackers will screw up again quickly.

The way I handle it is to send them home for the day and I tell them I'll think about what happened, and call them later to tell them whether or not they still have a job.

Probably a much better lesson overall.

At least you were late to a job that doesn't really seem like it'll lead ya places. I'm assuming (BIG ASSUMPTION HERE) that that job sucks. I've worked at call centers before and they really suck. They have people come in and tell us how great our jobs are and that they got to where they were because they started in the call center and blah blah blah. If they can replace you that easily, then the job is probably not worth it and there's probably a high turnover rate. Live and learn. I bet you probably won't let this happen in the future when it actually comes to a career instead of just a job.

EY2K, someone who is training is still contributing to getting work done at the job. i had a job @ anchor blue and in my training period, it took a while to learn to use the regester but i was still expected to help customers, etc....

i dont doubt that this is a different kind of job but it is possible that the workload changes when someone (even in training) doesnt show up

i work at place where i can go ne time i want (unless I have a meeting or something)

as long as i deliver the projects its all good (and i make very good money too , thank you very much)
