****ING COMCAST!

what exactly is fios? what kind of connection does that use?
Uses a single fiber to the home, one wavelength for transmit, another for receive.
Cable will catch/surpass it soon as they already have the networks in place and can offer the same speeds at a lower price.

MSDawn,
It's not a battle of technology, but one of customers/services/returns.
Don't think for a second that they don't see what is happening.
they've already got the cable in the ground. they have more than enough bandwidth. it will be interesting to see how this battle plays out.

FIOS is just ridiculous. 75mbps down next year??!!!!!!!!!!!
My only "high speed" options:
$32.95/mo for 384kbps/128kbps, or $52.95 for 3mbps/384kbps.
Charter is fvcking useless, overpriced garbage.
And weird that Michigan ain't allowing that, fvcking MI sucks.
Speak for yourself. In my area (southwestern PA) Comcast has been nothing but reliable since the day we got it three years ago. Anytime I've ever had issues they were resolved over the phone in minutes and the initial setup back in 2003 was a breeze as well. I also get extremely good speeds (9000k+) for my $42.95/month, however that could be because very few people have cable internet in my sector.Originally posted by: MS Dawn

They've had the bandwidth for a very long time. Bottom line is what the customer gets is poop. The largest operator (Comcast) is one if not the most unethical managed providers around. Their network, routing, and quality of service is absolutely horrible. The best thing that could happen with them is they would buy Disney and both companies run into the ground. That would be the finest example of the ship of fools running aground.

Indeed, I understand that some areas really do suck. Hence my "speak for yourself." 😛Originally posted by: MS Dawn

Most people that typically surf the net don't notice the issues at hand. Some areas are so bad that everyone notices. Check out the forums at broadbandreports.com. This really is a case of your mileage may vary. Remember where there is smoke, there is usually a fire.

I've had Verizon DSL (supposed to be 3Mbit, but I only get 1.5Mbit) for over about a year and a half now at the $30 rate. In the past six months I've been hammered with fliers, phone calls, emails, and even people at my door asking me to upgrade to FIOS. They seem pretty anxious to get people switched over, and I've been considering it but also wondering when they'll match the regular DSL price...Originally posted by: GalvanizedYankee
I got the notice last week. 5/2@$35, 15/2@$40. There is a deal out there for $29.95 for the first year of 5/2, I have to find it and call'em out. Verizon ran all the optical cables about 4~6 months ago. Now they look for a mass switch over.
I live in Long Beach, Ca.

Well then that's their own demise.
Most people who have broadband have a choice in providers. And the customers will drive the capabilities of the networks. Verizon will only drive better quality/prices from cable. And that's a good thing. But DSL is a thing of the past IMHO.
me, I'm happen with my almost 20 mbs cable service for cheap.
