If cops can enforce the speed limit consistently, then I would better understand their argument. Some towns or cops let you slide going 5-10 over, some let you slide doing 15 over on a highway, others will crucify you doing 29 mph in a residential or school zone (as they should). There are too many conditions, and too many variables. If they're going to be hard asses on enforcing the speed limit then there should be no mercy after you went over the legal limit. It's not their job to decide if you get a speeding ticket or just a no seat belt ticket. Though to be honest, if it did ever come down to this everybody will be losing their god damn license and local mayors would be voted out of office.

So until cops enforce the legal driving limit consistent and uniformly, screw it and lets just keep bitching.

How about you simply drive the posted limit? 😕

Haha, I knew one of them would show up.

What is the % margin of error on the unit?

I don't use laser, but stationary radar is typically +/- 1mph and moving radar is +/- 2mph.

in that case he can just go to court and point that out. Due to margin of error, he could have been infact going the speed limit (unless he was doing the speed limit in bad wheather). Ofcourse, any judge that lets someone get ticketed for doing 1 mile of the speed limit....man.....

He said he was stopped, not ticketed. I could technically stop for it also.

stopped AND ticketed. he just mailed a payment instead of dealing with the hassle of going to court

I have one question for you, heymrdj, why on gods green earth would you go to the Blueberry Festival (other than being with your girl)? 😉 I live about 10 miles from that town and it's nothing but a cluster fuck from friday to sunday.

What part of 31 did you get pulled over on? What was the officers name? I might know him.

The ISP around here are a funny bunch. Some will give you 15 over and others will give 5 over.

You were speeding, you got a ticket. 8 over may not seem like a lot but different regions have different standards. I can drive 20 over the limit in the Twin Cities without getting a ticket, but if I drive even 10 over in ND I'm certain to get a ticket.

Unrealistic sensationalism for the win.

One of whom?

Just pay the ticket, it's not worth the hassle. Remember to include a stamped self addressed envelope so they will send you a receipt. IN has a reciprocal agreement with all other States about suspending your license and most Counties will notify BMV if you fail to pay to have your license suspended. As SunnyD said the points may not transfer but I wouldn't count on it. I know out of State points transfer to IN. As far as taking a DDC save the $40 bucks, it's not going to get you your points back. In Indiana DDC is used after your license is suspended, then you have to take the course before you get them back, ( along with an SR 50, SR 22, reinstatement fees, the promise of naming your first born son Mitch, and kissing the double chinned, harry mole, 400 lb BMV lady right on the lips) .

Unfortunately, because you're in GA, you didn't see all the news stories about the cops cracking down on Labor day weekend watching for speeders and drunks with instruction to give no quarter! Hey, we need the money, the States going broke!

Wow, Indiana is even more lenient than Michigan.

$115 and only 2 points for 15 over? Some states don't even hand you lubricant at that point.

Eh?

I was only 8 over, and that was while passing.

Pay the fine and forget about it.

Geico says I can expect a 10-15% raise for 2 points, I already pay 650$ every 6 months for me and my bro together on insurance.

The ticket was in another state. geico won't know shit.

not true. Most state bureaus will report it to the license holders state.

Yeah, but the fine is the same for 15 over. Passing isn't relevant, the speed limit is the same when you're passing.

Once again I do not understand what 2 points is. 2 points in CA is a DUI. 4 and your license is gone.

2 points out of the 12 on my license I can get before my license is suspended.

WTF 8 mph over.

Wow, so how are we supposed to be sure never to get a ticket? Drive under the limit at all times? But no one drives under the limit, is there no escape from this police-imposed tax?

Not true.

I set my cruise control all the time 5 mph under the speed limit.

Best part is I enjoy being the fucktard holding up traffic causing people to flash lights, honk horns, flip fingers and basically just have a fucking stroke.

Hope you'all get behind me sometime.

Oh and I have gotten tickets for speeding when I was clearly way under the speed limit.

There is no getting away from police-imposed taxes no matter what your speed.

Wow my thread must be epic to drag the largest piece of trash on Anand out of his PN bat cave.

If anyone hasn't noticed, I'm not contesting the fact I deserved the ticket, and I am willing to pay the fine, but I don't think I deserved the points and the future problems it brings for the single strike in my 6 years of driving in the law and I want to come out of this best I can.

its ok, we'll just brake screech you

GA is not a compact state. That said, Indiana is - they will send the record to GA. Whether GA will or won't do anything about it is up in the air though. That being said, my wife having received tickets in FL with a NY license (both compact states) had no points assessed on her license.

Again, it all depends on the state, or even the county. Talk to you local DMV.

He was ticketed for 1mph over? 😕 There's got to be more to the story.

Yes, it is. Discretion is a critical piece to the 'puzzle', if you will. Are you telling me I should have written the cardiologist who was en route to the hospital after receiving an emergency page? Middle of the night, nobody on the road but me and him, and while he was exceeding the posted speed limit, his speed was not necessarily unreasonable or imprudent for the existing conditions - and per New Hampshire's speed statute, a judge could easily throw it out (I would).

I called them this morning. My ticket still hasn't been processed and they told me I would indeed have to talk with the local DMV for points removal. Said it will probably be another week before the ticket is processed.
