i took in a feral kitten in a similar state once. his mommy had disappeared and his siblings were getting along ok, since we lived hear a creek with lots of mice and birds and things, but he was the runt and was starving to death. i fed him and won his trust. after feeding him for a couple of weeks, i got him in and took him to the vet, and he weighed one pound. he's now been my kitty for 5 years, weighs 12 pounds, and has slowly grown more bold around strangers as the years go by. he loves to play and cuddle, and he has tons of personality. i love him to death!

oh yeah, this cat almost certainly has worms! they get them from fleas, and it's easy for them to eat a flea because of the way they groom. watch out for "sesame seeds" where the kitty sleeps. those are worm segments that have come out of its butt. for the love of god don't eat one. and get a litter box. the kitty will be happy to have it and will likely use it if you just show it to him. it will only cost you $20 for a box and some litter and save you cleaning up.

its butt was probably inflamed because it was constipated from not eating for so long. that big one probably hurt coming out.

if there is any chance you'll have the cat for more than a week or two, i'd try to get it to the vet. it needs shots, probably de-worming, and they can give it a tube of Advantage to get rid the fleas and prevent it from getting worms again for a month or so. it might cost some money, but it will make it a lot easily to get adopted if people know the cat is "ready to go."

edit: mis-read update #3.

Get that cat back and give it a good home, or ban.

Oh, and slap the hell out of your parents, lousy animal hating fvckers.
