The point was, you are whining that its X amount more a month when the OP's post was that the phone only cost on dollar. Up front, its a buck. It's no big surprise you pay a monthly charge for the phone, especially when it shows that on the same page.

As for the $27.00 monthly charge, people spend that in a day or two on food. People spend 4x that on cable TV a month. If its the monthly charge you are worried about, cut it out somewhere else if it bothers you or don't buy the phone.

I don't think it's obvious to some people. Look at the OP. He put "$1" in the thread title. Why do that if he didn't think he got some type of great deal?

For that price, he could have bought many new phones, a G5, S7, on and on.

All the phones have 'pricing options.' Some are $200+ for contract, and $28 a month for payment plan. It doesn't make sense a phone would be $28 a month in addition to $200 up front.

Its the same deal when I log into Verizon and upgrade from there. I can do a payment plan which is full retail price / 24 months, a contract which is say $199 for an S7 (retail price has a strike through it) or retail price all at once.

It looks like Verizon never did away with the old contract system that everyone seemed to hate for some reason. So if you don't mind being 'locked in' to verizon, there is zero reason to go with month to month payment plans or retail price.

I'm not from USA, but from what I gather, his price plan did not increase, because they were charging this phone subsidy whether you take the phone or not.

But you can get a cheaper plan if you de couple.

This is also how carriers did it here where I am.

I am on Verizon's "loyalty" plan there is no line fee, for a flat rate of $70 I get unlimited talk, text and 3gb of data. If I can keep my data under 2gb (which I do most months) it's $60 instead of $70.

For the last time, you're paying 70 a month for the contract which includes the price of the phone! That's what teh device payment means. Subtract 27 out of 70, that leaves you with the service cost.

That prepaid plan isn't even comparable because of the no-roaming, different priority, etc. The correct comparable plan is the current postpaid version (which is the exact plan that he's on), and it's $45 for unlimited talkt/txt/3 GB + $20 line fee = $65/month.

Yes, he really is only paying $5/month more than most other people who just randomly comes in and want the same deal.

I get it, guys. I've been a number one opponent of the practice of buying phones with a contract since before most people in the US know that you can get a cellphone line without a contract. I have been, and still am, strongly against it. But the OP is on a loyalty plan that very small number of people are still on and could not be had by anyone currently looking to get it. It is possible for select few people to actually be ahead by choosing to be in-contract by combining their legacy plan with a store offer like this one.

You are wrong, there is no device payment in the bill. You cannot have a $43 a month bill from Verizon that includes unlimited talk/text and 3gb. The plan I have is the cheapest available and the same you would pay if you brought an unlocked phone in.

That's actually not how it works. The loyalty plan is a flat rate fee of $60 a month for 2gb of data, and an additional $10 a month for every 1gb after that. So $70 for 3gb is the figure I quote when I talk about it, since 3gb is the standard these days. But I usually am able to keep my data under 2gb and thus pay $60 a month.
