Hmmmm...it's kinda funny to see conservationist statements among a group of people who's average PC power consumption per month likely rivals the amount of available power in all of Kenya.

It's statements like this that lead me to believe that while most of mankind has been evolving there are people like yourself that are being left behind. The primitive part of your brain that is saying "BIG BETTER ME LIKE BIG" is dominant and rarely questioned. An educated evolved person has this once dominant portion of their brain suppressed and defaults to a more logical interpretation of the physical world. If the less evolved person were to take a dozen sledge hammer bashings to the head, the primitive brain would still stay intact. This would ultimately lead to death by way of sudden stupidity.

Does one person really need FOUR V8 powered sports coupes?

Does one person really need ONE Ferrari Enzo? No, but it would sure be nice to have one. Just like it's nice to have my four cars.

And it's still excess. You had a huge rant on excess of size. You have an excess of quantity(and size of engine to a degree). Still the same primal chest beating desires of the id that you were complaining about.

I don't have the vechicles to show any sort of dominance. I have them because I enjoy the thrill of their performance. Besides, my comment wasn't directed at SUVs in general, just the statement AmigaMan made.

Doesn't sound quite so neutral. Sounds like if its not designed to go fast = fatty transporter? What you say?

Like the Hemi Commercial, pulling a trailer w/ a car on it... :p

I don't think he bought it to drag race, but, certainly nice to have extra power on tap when you need it, no matter the vehicle.

Pablo,

Have the brakes been upgraded? If not, please remember to be extra careful, doesn't help to be able to getup and go if you can't stop just as quickly.

Also, did they have a dyno of the power to show you or is that 'estimated'?

Anyway, Congrats on the ride, hope it's reliable for you.

I don't like THAT particular SUV, that doesn't mean I hate all of them. Lets take a look at power to weight ratios. Now, by no means is this the end all indication of a vehicles performance, but it is a good indication.

2006 Trailblazer SS: 4680lbs/400hp = 11.7 lbs per hp
2005 Honda S2000: 2835lbs/240hp = 11.8 lbs per hp
2006 Pontiac GTO: 3725lbs/400hp = 9.31 lbs per hp
2007 Toyota Camry: 3483lbs/268hp = 12.99 lbs per hp
Stock Suburban: 5475lbs/295hp = 18.56 lbs per hp
Your Suburban: 5475lbs/400hp = 13.67 lbs per hp

As you can see, the SC just makes the vehicle tolerable at the expense of guzzling even more gas to move it's weight.

Thus = fatty transporter? Is this somehow contradictory to something i've said? Plus, none of these are options because they are all more expensive than the vehicle i bought. If you want a pat on the back for having a lighter weight car, good for you. If you ask me, the vehicles you own don't scream practicality any more than mine does.

I'm not psychic. I simply have reading comprehension.

Did you not say:

Its a good mix for me. Its no rocket, but it'd outrun 80% of what's on the road right now. (straightline only, of course ) It makes a 5000lb. behemoth not seem quite so cumbersome.

Thus, you think you're faster than 80% of what is on the road right now. Meaning, you think that you're in the 20th percentile of "fast cars". You're not. No way, no how.

I would never say I was in the top 20% of "fast cars". Why did you completely reword my statement? I still stick to my original statement, 80% of what's on the road.

Yes, thus making it a fatty transporter. The vehicle that develops whirlpools in it's own gas tank just to hit 60 in 8 seconds.

You haven't mentioned what you are going to use the vehicle for anyways. You must have a large family.

Dear lord.

Do you know how many SUVs there are on the roads? do you know how many trucks there are on the road? do you know how many economy cars there are on the road? do you know how many base model versions of all cars there are on the road? Commercial trucks?

Its a completely unprovable point. I'd say 80% of whats on the road. Call me crazy. I might be delusional. I don't think i know what i'm saying at all. Care to enlighten?

You're right, I goofed on the "20the percentile statement". I can see how that can confuse you.

My point was this:

You're NOT faster than 80% of automobiles, period....no way, no how.

Does that make more sense?

It's not like it's a bad thing man...'burbans are not designed to be speed demons anyway...

I think you're crazy to buy a Suburban with gas prices the way that they are...but it's your $$$....do what you want with it.

No, I'd say it's at LEAST faster than 80% of what's on the road, maybe 90%. Even if you don't include big rigs, buses, dump trucks, FedEx vans, etc. 400hp in a 5000lb vehicle is like 200hp in a 2500lb vehicle, which is enough to be pretty fast.
Still pointless, but fast.

That's cool. I agree with you there. I spent a lot less money on the car, and I felt I could justify the additional cost of gas.

400hp in an automatic 5000lb vehicle translates to 300whp and a weight-to-power of 16.67.

Converted to my car it would mean having 20hp more than I do right now. You can check my sig for performance numbers. Shave ~.3s from my car's times. I think that's a pretty decent guesstimate for yours.

Damn there's a lot of HP whores here.

Yeh it might weigh twice as much as a civic, but it still has about 3.5x the amount of torque. Trucks/full frame SUV's aren't meant to be HP queens. There's more to it than just HP numbers.

How are you getting the 300hp to the wheel estimate?

If you took the engine from that, put it in a bathtub with wheels, THEN you'd have a car to be proud of, and definately no soccer mum comments. Promise.

?? There are plenty of sub-4 liter engines with upwards of 1000 horsepower (the 4th gen Supra comes to mind), so 400hp is well within the limits of believability.

If you drive a Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon, you've gotta be able to deal with the soccer mom stigma, because that's who drives them.

that said, sweet ride. =) I'd love to see you smoke 300hp civics who think they're hot sh*t.
