Got a new laptop!

You can kill them via asphyxiation. This is safe for the electronics. Find a local dry ice supplier and obtain a cake of several pounds. Put the notebook in a large cooler and far from the dry ice. You want to use as large of a cooler as possible - even a large fridge/freezer as the smaller it is the colder the notebook will become. You don't want it getting too cold (< -30C) or that could do damage! Also important! NEVER seal it airtight! Dry ice is CO2 in solid form and its sublimation pressure is > 1070 psig! A sealed cooler becomes a bomb at that point so you want to vent it. Once the CO2 displaces all the breathable air for a few hours ANYTHING inside is dead. So this will kill mice in an A/C unit, for example. This trick is popular for boaters/RVrs etc. that come back after layup and find all sorts of critters onboard and do NOT want to retain the services of a PCO charging over a thousand dollars to Vikane it. 😉

Be sure to contain them. If they contaminated your laptop in Taiwan, they might be a foreign species that lacks natural predators here and will take over the US. On the other hand, they may kill off some of our other annoying pests by depleting the native pest's food supply.

Well it's impossible to tell whether it's really the sellers fault. It could have been infested at one of that UPS centers.

I don't know what they are, (my first thought was cockroaches...fairly common) and based on one of the "squished bug on papertowel" that's what I thought they were...but the other pics don't look like roaches...or at least not the kinds I've had the misfortune to see.

There is NO FUCKING WAY that we'd keep a laptop that came with bugs...live or electronic. The seller would get it back...shoved up their ass.

I think this is what we've got.

http://entnem.ufl.edu/creature...ban/roaches/german.htm

German cockroaches in their nymph stage.

Looks like they hate cold temperatures. Maybe I should stick the laptop in the chest freezer in the garage for a week.

La Cucaracha!

Where the fuck did you get the laptop?

Purchased it from a member of another forum. He says he doesn't know how they could have gotten in there but we found a smashed one in the bottom of the box the laptop was shipped in. Unless the bugs somehow got into the taped box, then the box inside of that, then found a way to smash itself, the bugs or eggs must have gotten inside prior to being shipped.

More than likely, the guy's house has roaches and he doesn't even know it.

Right now I have the laptop and battery inside a plastic container with the top covered in Press n Seal to prevent any bugs from escaping. It will remain in the chest freezer at its coldest setting for the next 7 days which will kill everything inside.

Meanwhile I'm going to have to ask for some kind of financial reimbursement from the seller.

Why should the seller give you a penny? The laptop works, it's the model he told you it would be, he doesn't owe you a cent. My guess is you're also going to demand a refund after you ruin the laptop by putting it in the freezer for a week.

It was you wasn't it?

BUGS!!!!!!

http://img15.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=dscf2004i.jpg

My wife and I have seen and killed about 7 of these things now. They've been inside the box the laptop came in and in the laptop itself. The right hinge of the LCD appears to have some tiny, yellow specks that I've wiped away. Each time we've seen one of the bugs emerge from inside the laptop they've come from that area so I'm guessing they're either droppings or eggs.

Got the laptop from a member of another forum and he's as perplexed as I am. Anyone seen these before or know what kind of bug this is?

Aside from completely ripping the laptop apart I don't know of any way to make sure they're all out.

Who was the seller so I can put him on my DNT list. I'm going to add you as well since your place is now considered infested.

That's true.

However I'd find it very odd if 7+ roaches got inside of a sealed box, then inside another box inside that first box, then one of them somehow gets smashed on the bottom in transit.

Ockam's Razor would seem to tell me that it's more likely that the seller's residence is infested and he doesn't realize it.

or won't admit it...

He'd be getting the laptop back if it were me...and he'd get a negative comment on his heat for it as well.

THE FUCK
id return it and demand my money back
people who say there is no recourse obviously have never dealt with roaches thats some nasty shit bro!@!!

I wish someone would kill ImageShack, because that place sucks.

this

What's wrong with Imageshack? I only use it because I was too lazy to sign up for an account and it is one of the few image hosting sites (at the time) that lets you post without signing up. It does the job, but what am I missing out on? What site do you use?

Soak it in rubbing alcohol, should kill anything and be safe for electronics

Is this true?

Will submerging the laptop in 91% Isopropyl Alcohol be safe for it? I know you can build a computer and submerge it in mineral oil.

You can submerge it in anything as long as you aren't using the machine... Assuming whatever you're submerging it in isn't an acid or something that will eat away at the components.

The trick is letting it dry out completely before use.

That is disgusting, send it back.

As long as he is receptive to a return I would not leave negative heat. Give him the benefit of the doubt that it didn't come from his house, no need to publicly humiliate him.

Viper GTS

lol when I worked at Sony Vaio, a guy got a Lappy that was chocked full of baby 'roaches. He was usually pretty bad ass but he hated bugs. He jumped up screaming. The manager of the section said to box it back up and send it right back to the owner. It seemed like 200+ jumped out. Was hilariously watching the techs running around trying to kill them all.
