Got a new laptop!

BUGS!!!!!!

My wife and I have seen and killed about 7 of these things now. They've been inside the box the laptop came in and in the laptop itself. The right hinge of the LCD appears to have some tiny, yellow specks that I've wiped away. Each time we've seen one of the bugs emerge from inside the laptop they've come from that area so I'm guessing they're either droppings or eggs.

Got the laptop from a member of another forum and he's as perplexed as I am. Anyone seen these before or know what kind of bug this is?

Aside from completely ripping the laptop apart I don't know of any way to make sure they're all out.

The easiest solution would be to just wait it out. Once you start using the laptop, they'll all hatch and come out eventually. Just make sure to get rid of them as soon as you see one around your laptop so they don't set up home in your home.

Is this true?

Will submerging the laptop in 91% Isopropyl Alcohol be safe for it? I know you can build a computer and submerge it in mineral oil.

I have just notified the US Department of Agriculture. You should expect black helicopters at any moment.

I don't know what they are, (my first thought was cockroaches...fairly common) and based on one of the "squished bug on papertowel" that's what I thought they were...but the other pics don't look like roaches...or at least not the kinds I've had the misfortune to see.

There is NO FUCKING WAY that we'd keep a laptop that came with bugs...live or electronic. The seller would get it back...shoved up their ass.

I think this is what we've got.

German cockroaches in their nymph stage.

Looks like they hate cold temperatures. Maybe I should stick the laptop in the chest freezer in the garage for a week.

I wouldnt try it. It is safe for some components (I know people who clean their motherboards with it), but unsafe for other components (such as small transistors and batteries). If I got a laptop with bugs in it, I would just disassemble it and clean the entire thing. Truth be told, I dont think I would use it at all anyways.. just shows that the seller doesn't take care of his belongings

Purchased it from a member of another forum. He says he doesn't know how they could have gotten in there but we found a smashed one in the bottom of the box the laptop was shipped in. Unless the bugs somehow got into the taped box, then the box inside of that, then found a way to smash itself, the bugs or eggs must have gotten inside prior to being shipped.

More than likely, the guy's house has roaches and he doesn't even know it.

Right now I have the laptop and battery inside a plastic container with the top covered in Press n Seal to prevent any bugs from escaping. It will remain in the chest freezer at its coldest setting for the next 7 days which will kill everything inside.

Meanwhile I'm going to have to ask for some kind of financial reimbursement from the seller.

Why should the seller give you a penny? The laptop works, it's the model he told you it would be, he doesn't owe you a cent. My guess is you're also going to demand a refund after you ruin the laptop by putting it in the freezer for a week.

Because it came full of roaches. I would have sent the fucker back and demanded a full refund. That's fucking nasty.
