I'm getting my 6800 utlra tomorrow, now I'm looking for games to see really nice graphics. I have HL2, Doom3, and Far Cry. Is there anythign else? Maybe just tech demo's to see the power 🙂 Let me know!

EQ2 will bring a single 6800U to it's knees at high res and full settings....but at 1280x1024 or 1024x768, I imagine it would run quite smoothly. I only say this, as I have a x800XT, play(ed) EQ2, on my LCD 1600x1200, and had to go to medium settings for it to be smooth....

Chronicles of Riddick: EfBB(DC) . . . . use the 2.0+++ shader option . . . Starbreeze's Xlint engine

Painkiller (with patch 1.61) and PK: BOoH (use ultra) . . . great physics with Havok 2.0 and support for SM 3.0

Thief - Deadly Shadows (nice lighting . . . . the Unreal engine's current best gfx)

i recommend all 3 games for their gameplay also . . .

oh yeah, the eXpansion pak: doom iii: resurrection of [an] evil [game] . . . . if you can stand the crap gameplay, the gfx should be improved and it is out this month.

Yesterday they announced that the Doom 3 PC expansion (and Xbox version) wouldn't be available until the next fiscal year, which begins in April.
Activision has a slight downer for fans of demon-slaying: DOOM 3 for the Xbox and the DOOM 3 PC expansion have both been pushed back to the company's fiscal 2006, which would mean April at the earliest. While neither title had received a solid date, Xbox gamers in particular have been eager for id Software's hot FPS sequel.

I believe yesterday they announced that it wouldn't be available until the next fiscal quarter, April-June.

oh well, i guess i have old news . . . . i was at Beast Buy yesterday buying PK: BOoH and the Doom iii exp pack was still on presale. 😛

and does anyone really care about this crappy game and expansion - except for the gfx?
Doom iii has fans? 😛

Go to fileplanet and search for "The Project", it's a new tech demo from ati(i know).
Really cool,it's a little story, but I have a 6800gt and some of the areas on screen a blury.
Anyone know why?

Yes DOOM 3 has it's fans me included.

The sims 2 looks pretty slick when everything is turned up and LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth also looks good oh and NFSU:2

I played D3 for a few hours... I can't seem to bring myself to spend any more time on it. *shrugs*

But then again, I found the same with Painkiller. I think I'm three levels in, and I've all but totally lost interest. What do you like so much about it?

I'm a fan of Doom3. I loved the environment. (to apoppin)

I'm a fan of PainKiller, it is very fast paced action reminiscent of Quake1. (to wingznut)

PK has a "fun" element not present in Doom iii. PK is also NOT repetetive (Doom iii is just like playing the "same" dark cramped level; PK's levels are really different from each other), the gameplay is excellent, the weapons are well-balanced (and there is no goddamned PDA to take you away from the game) . . . . HOWEVER, PK is definitely a "horror" game (like doom iii) . . . . you may not like this type of gory game. 😉

Ands i am glad to see ALL fans of Doom iii on AT have posted their support for this POS game in this thread . . . . 😛

what do i like about PK?
PAINKILLER is in the Bargain Bin!

I'm really enjoying the later Chapters. Especially Chapter 5 City on Water and levels after. I guess I'm kinda burned-out on the cemetary thing from playing the demo so much. The later levels are a bit more "modern", you'll be fraggin Hell's Angels with machine guns etc.

I'd sugest that b4 you give up on it, go HERE and get the mod which allows you to warp to any level you want (I have not tried the mod myself, my 8 old year got us through the cemetary stuff etc. 😉 ). 'Course, you're still just fraggin, no story line of any real substance.

Oh, yeah, try the old monstary level in chapter 5. Go frag some priests!

Music is not bad in the game either.

Hello,

I just got a new PC, AMD 64 3500+, ASUS 8AV motherboard, 1GB dual channel PC3200 memory, and a 6800 Ultra 256 MB card. I was surprised that Riddick was such a demanding application. I thought it was more demanding than Doom 3, Half Life 2, and Far Cry. I tried turning down the texture quality some, but it sure is a resource hog. Is there something else I need to turn down? All the other games run great. How's Painkiller, it got scathing reviews but I read good things here about it?

Sincerely,
Hans

Hans, as for Painkiller- check out Apoppin's thread HERE we're all yaking it about over there.

Don't have the Riddick game yet. Sounds pretty good to me. IIRC, Apoppin or Warcrow had a thread on it a little while ago. Might search it up and see what everbody said

YES!!!!

Turn down the SM 2.0+++ option to 2.0 . . . it may only run on the 6800 series but is sure slows it down (or so it has been reported) . . . . i guess you need to sli that ultra to get good fps with 2+++ shaders. 😛

yeah i got this on the $350 outpost deal. My friend got his yesterday, but he had some stuttering issues, he called bfg and they said to turn off fastwrites. I did realize overnight shipping was only 2 dollars more, so i ordered 2nd day, oh well.

PK (so far) is just walk into a huge room, kill an onslaught of bad guys, walk through an entrance into another large room... Lather, rinse, repeat. No tactics needed to take out the bad guys, just shoot at them as they come towards you. (I actually found it very easy to sit on one side of a doorway, and blast them as they follow each other through like sheep.) It's pretty much Serious Sam in a different environment. The repetition is what's making me lose interest already.

I'll plod through some more, and hope it gets better. 🙂
