Got a 145MPH ride in a Camaro today

I don't know of any areas that have a 6 mile straight stretch of race track. I think it would be more dangerous going on a race track with abunch of other drivers than on a deserted road, especially when you still have to take corners on the track.

I can't, and I would like to see those lap times compared to other cars - All I know is that Camaros (as well as Mustangs) have a suspension that was already outdated in the 60/70s. C'mon a live axle - that is 40s style. I doubt they get around a real track fast, I have never been in a car whose rear end breaks out so easily.

I have a 1967 Camaro;with leaf springs,not coils,and this technology,dates to the early 1800's,used in wagons and carriages,and on trains.
If you look at a brand new 1 ton pickup truck,you will see that it too uses leaf springs in the rear.

Seriously, 150 on a highway with light traffic and 3 or more lanes on each side really isn't that fast. I have maintained higher speeds than that for 330 consecutive miles. There are parts of I-75 where if you are going under 110mph most people will be passing you.

I'm pretty sure you were suggesting getting rid of speed limits in jest, but I'll suggest it with conviction.

P.S. I have driven 115 in New York City. THAT I would agree is dangerous, maybe even somewhat insane. It was an attempt to scare my family so that they wouldn't keep haivng me shofer them all over the place to areas where finding a parking spot takes longer than walking there. It didn't work they enjoyed the "taxi roller coaster" and wanted to ride it even more.

I love these guys who are defending going these speeds down a public road. Fvcking morons who cause accidents. Don't realize what happens when a car gets out of shape going that fast - or what happens if something goes wrong.

Especially in a Camaro. Glued to the road at 65mph (because it has oversize tires) isn't the same as glued to the road at 150mph. That's where it's severly antiquated suspension becomes hazardous.

Even Michael Shumacher has crashed - and it was all his fault too. He made a MISTAKE. God help the poor soul who's on the same road as you guys when you screw up.

As George Carlin says, most people have no idea there's such a thing as dangerous fun. You can't be perfectly safe all the time, and you miss out on a lot of life living with fear and caution.

That being said, there is a big difference between doing something dangerously fun where you could hurt yourself and doing something where you could hurt other people.

If the road is truly deserted and there is no way a car could get if your way without you seeing it, by all means, go as fast as you want. If you kill yourself, it's only yourself you are killing, and you knew the risks. But if you kill some mom and kids on the way home from soccer practice just because you want to have some fun, you deserve to rot in hell.

Actually you might be very surprised at the results if we tried this. Speed limits used to be set to match what the average driver would do on a given type of road in normal driving conditions. The 55 MPH limit changed this common sense approach and almost every community now uses speed limits and other traffic gotchas as a nice revenue enhancer.
