Well then stop wanting to force people to do your moral bidding and we can avoid the welfare thing. Your morals have consequences.

Just so were clear here. A poor female gets pregnant unintentionally and wants to do the financially responisible decision by removing the embryo from body, but you dont want her to. So she goes on welfare to support the unwanted baby you forced her to have. Not only do you get to force her to have a unwanted baby but you refuse to support it and then bitch about her being on welfare.

Basically keep your fucking morals to yourself. You dont have to agree with every decision someone makes just as they dont have to agree with yours.
 
I'm out everyone. Im the only one in this thread so far that offered any kind of compromising solution (not saying its great, but its a start) instead of just bitching back and forth. Then i get accused of raping kittens..mature. And have to try to explain what a simple term like "clump of cells" actually means when im pretty sure to the other 99% know exactly what were talking about here.

Of course there is, but that's not at all what you said.

Using this new scenario, what you said is "if you're going to stab someone, the compassionate thing to do would be to just kill them". I'm not sure how you can interpret that to mean anything other than being dead is better than being a surviving stab victim. If that is what you believe, the compassionate thing for the passerby to do is not call 911, but rather to finish the job.

If the state of being dead is a better result than the state of having serious health problems, that holds regardless of the cause of the serious health problems. If the state of being dead is not better, causing death is not the compassionate thing.

The way a troll works is they make a point, and then when anyone makes a counter point they accuse the second person of being stupid or a racist or otherwise deflect the discussion.

And it was a big mistake because the conversation has been intelligent, you using yours to try to come up with intelligent compromise, and others, using theirs to deflect your ideas and defend their own. The latter is what conservatives do. I see no answer for this other than smoking out the motivations that underlie conservative thinking and make them as clear as you can. These are black and white thinkers, folk who feel insecure with loose ends, who need closure to their anxieties, and use quick, snap judgment assumptions to solve their insecurities. It is an evolutionary inheritance from times when you couldn't perform scientific tests on whether that shape in the jungle was a real tiger. Sometimes the ones who dallied got eaten and sometimes the runners ran straight into real jaws of death. The optimum solution is for liberals to listen to conservative fears to identify early potential real problems but use their own reasoning skills to solve them.

In today's world I think the danger we face is that conservatives have become insane, in the case we discuss hear, the realization that their absolute need for absolutes is how the drive for perfection destroys the civil good. Their thinking is absurd, but they do not carry their absurdities all the way to their logical conclusions. If you want to show them the dangers they represent, show them what truth is to the right of them. Take them before the Spanish Inquisition and try them for heresy. It won't be long and they will not so much like conservative thinking. They are very very ugly, but they won't see it until that ugliness comes back at them.

For example, recent scientific research has stumbled onto an exciting truth that any rat cell can become a rat given proper manipulation. This is doubtless how the first woman was made from Adam. And the obvious conclusion, since life is sacred, is that no more human cells must be allowed to perish. They must all be saved and the quadrillions of children they can become cared for and given a home. God didn't give us two good hands and strong backs so we could lay around on our asses and he didn't give us a brain so we wouldn't use it to create quadrillions of new human beings. Each of your cells has a soul as does every twin, and every time you take a crap you flush millions of human beings. But since every conservative flushes millions of conservative babies, maybe it doesn't matter so much.

Wow. Alright I didn't take into account the fact that you have no clue how social security and medicare work. You better hold on to your pants because this is going to be a shocker that you've never heard before...

There is no SS trust fund. SS is not a retirement program. Never has been, never will be. It is a wealth transfer program.

Social security is a simple pyramid scheme that transfers wealth from the working to the retired. People that retired 20 years ago were high on the pyramid and got more back in benefits than they paid in. People retiring today may break even. But younger folks are on the bottom of the pyramid. We will not get back in benefits as much as we pay in. The same is true for medicare. These programs are by definition welfare.

This is completely off topic and besides the point. I said I would trade paying taxes for programs that benefit people that chose not to work, save for retirement, or buy their own medical insurance in return for paying taxes to pay for babies that have no choice of whether they are born or not up until they are 18. On these terms, do we have a deal?

Depending on when you began receiving benefits and how much you paid in, you may receive far more in SS and Medicare benefits than you ever paid in, even factoring in a reasonable rate of return. Some think tank (the Urban Institute?) did a great breakdown of the numbers a few months back. Large numbers of current SS/Medicare recipients paid in far less than they're reaping now. After the paid-back point, it's welfare.
