As people did before the gov't stepped in and thought they could do it better;)

Well... there is more madness to my post then meets the eye.. You see, to do what I suggested above (SS end) would engender a greater degree of fiscal responsibility in the Congress in both fiscal policy and in monitoring or creating the means to monitor the typical 'investment' grade corporations. IF the future retirement of you all is dependent on this you WILL watch every move government makes and every dime they spend. Bazillions of dollars spent and put to debt will tweak the nerve or many who now are apathetic to what it means. Wars will not be so eagerly supported, it seems to me.

I can't disagree with that.

Senate GOP leaders are rushing to bring the $87 billion request to a vote by the end of next week, prompting Democratic complaints that the measure is not being fully considered. Daschle questioned the need for haste, noting that Bremer told Democrats this week that the money will not be needed until January

This does not appear to be responsible fiscal policy.

...neither is the loss of $200B+ resulting from 9/11...think of it as an insurance policy and an expensive message to the world.

If you're a contained formerly-US supported dictator you're screwed?

I'm failing to see the analogue from 9/11 to Saddam.

Let's see ...... Iraq GDP for 2002 was $58 bil according to the CIA .

So what exactly is the $87 bil on top of the money already spent in 2003 going towards?

Think of it as an insurance con that is no good but costs a lot of money.

I'm sure the Bush administration will come to Clinton's defense.

Bushie: We must correct the misunderstanding about President Clinton.
Da People: What would that be?
Bushie: President Clinton never claimed he did not have sex with Monica Lewinsky.
Da People:  Uh yes he did . . . he even admitted it later on.
Bushie: No, President Clinton said he "did not have sexual relations with that woman" during his depositions for Paula "skank" Jones. There's a substantial difference between "sex" and "sexual relations" and what the President actually did himself.

BBD,
And here we went and wasted all that time over our mistake in the misunderstanding of what Clinton said and did.. we are sure dumb. Thank heavens for the Bushie. Without his intervention Da People would continue to be stupid.. I for one am happy he said this in front of the entire world at the UN last week..
I feel so bad for having doubted Clinton that I'm gonna vote for Bush to make amends and feel better..
