Trump may have had a hand in torpedoing this bill--he used Dept of Interior to threaten Murkowski, and she was incensed. She may have considered changing her vote if he hadn't put her in a position to cave to outside pressure.

It worked for him with Heller though, that guy folded like a lawn chair once the dear leader started pressuring him.

Unfortunately it means 7 wasted years and likely several more. Fixes need to get passed, but no one is going to want to touch this for a while.

"Working with Democrats" it's a ruse. They are off to tax cuts.
 
Maybe this forced McCains vote change to no. He had looked like a potential yes earlier in day in an effort to pass and punt to house, trusting they would fix it....

So the headline news should now read "Republicans fail to take away health care from millions of Americans", right? And the sub-heading should read "No tax cuts for the very wealthy as planned", right? Oh sure. lol

And the bright side to this embarrassment the Repubs smeared themselves with? That Trump is absolutely horrified that another one of his promises, a promise he repeated over and over again and one that very much so helped him win his presidency, is shot down and burning to ashes in his field of fake dreams. Along with that, there are a slew of Repubs that are somewhat glad that it didn't pass, for if it did, they'd have to have gone home and answer to all of those millions of folks from whom they took their health care away.

So I guess as a way to slap mud on their wounded egos, Trump and the Repubs are now going to do their utmost to sabotage the ACA in every way they can think of simply out of spite and to "prove" that what they said about the ACA failing on its own was true to their word.

That's some really twisted way to Make America Great Again.

The thing about their tax cuts (for the rich) plan is that they can only use Reconciliation (pass with 51 Senate votes). They were banking on passing a Repeal/Replace ACA to save them millions of dollars (due from gutting Medicaid and Medicare) in order to 'balance' the tax cuts for the wealthy. Now that ACA is 'safe', if they enact tax cuts, it'll increase the deficit - using Reconciliation to bring 'deficits' can only be passed for 10 years before expiring.

Tonight has been a great night for America. ACA is not perfect, it's a huge step in the right direction but needs fixing.
 
Obamacare does have it's flaws but for many... for most it is still working. Fact !!!
To pretend Obamacare is a disaster is utter nonsense.
Obamacare has for the most part stabilized the healthcare insurance markets.
What has threatened stability and created instability are the republicans continued attempts to undo something that is still working for many.... for most that need it and use it.

THEY "COULD" FIX THIS.

They "could" fix and improve instead of attack and destroy.
They could act like they really care about people and come together to fix Obamacare so that more insurance providers would participate and bring back stability to the entire process.

Two things will eventually happen with all of this.
Either they will finally come together for a fix, or... their failed attempts to destroy Obamacare will only lead us to real and true single payer national healthcare system.

And we could have that for everyone, with everyone fully insured.
What would need to happen is for politics and politicians to be locked out and completely detached from the process.
If we could take away the politics and the politicians from healthcare, then a single payer system would and could be successful working for all.
But as long as we allow the politicians into the healthcare process, healthcare for all Americans will never become reality.
Allowing the politicians into the process single payer would never work because the politicians would continue to have their hands in the mix and play up to the special interest.

The time is right for single payer.
All that would be needed is for democrats to be voted back into control, and Trump kicked out on his red commie Putin loving ass, then completely remove politics and politicians from any involvement with healthcare.
A single payer system ran completely by doctors and the medical professionals. A national healthcare system board where politicians need not apply.
This is how true affordable healthcare for all could and would work in America.

If it feels like their repeal efforts are totally insanity, it is because the politicians are insane.
This is all a win or lose game for them.
Getting healthcare to the people is the last thing on their mind.
So I say cut them completely out of the process, all of them, then set up a national healthcare board ran solely by medical professionals. Then, give us our single payer.

Skepticism was warranted given how often he ends up towing party line even in disagreement with them. The new conference he had earlier in the day wasn't a big confidence booster either. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong here.
