I use Firefox, duckduckgo and my banks app for phone contactless payments anyway as it's not a great idea to use one company for everything!
I assume Google is doing this to get on team Trump so that all that talk of the company getting split up stops. Absolutely doesn't forgive this kind of corporate cowardice though, and doesn't forgive the levels of government bullying and corruption!
For the record I think that all the big tech companies need to be split up, they have way too much power and a very smothering effect on all competitors.

I'm nearly constantly baffled at this subforum. This happened like a week ago. Anyone defending Google is being a dumbass. You guys really need to wake the fuck up. Tech is going full blown fascist. They were doing this even without Turmp, and they're a HUGE reason why Turmp got back into office, because they want Turmp and shitheads like him to enable the shit they're doing. They're openly talking about this shit even, saying how democracy is in their way so they should get rid of democracy.
Like how many people are waking up to how the media has been helping right wing shit the entire time, you guys need to have that awakening about the tech companies. They are how fascists will get what they've wanted for decades because they're building that apparatus (everything from systems digitally cataloging every picture of everyone - police are already using these by the way), to building "AI powered" military hardware that leverages all the data they have been collecting to target people (being used in Israel as we speak, granted, kinda doesn't matter when they're just indiscriminately bombing Palestinians, but they've been using it and the US police and military definitely are gonna utilize it, in fact the Oculus founder has been working on this shit after he got bounced out of there, specifically to target immigrants). They are already doing the things people said we should be doing everything (including pre-emptive strikes and going to war) against China for. The gross ignorance of people is scary, that being shown by supposed tech enthusiasts like the people on this forum, is fucking pathetic.
Instead you dipshits are wasting your time arguing with dumbfucks saying they didn't even know anything about this Gulf of America shit when its all over their social media. And you're doing even less about it. Bet dollars to donuts none of you actually stop using Google Maps over this.
You guys are fucking stupid as shit. Its one thing if Turmp had actually pressured them to do this, but he didn't. They fucking went out and did it themselves. Google explicitly helped Turmp. The entire corporate tech sector did. They're all pro-Turmp.
Now, certainly Google is doing this partly to help those lawsuits they lost against the DoJ to go away or have no real consequences, but they would have been pro-Turmp/fascist regardless. Right wingers don't hate the tech companies, its how they destroyed media, have gotten their propaganda machine, have dulled the masses into inaction doomscrolling their lives away as these fascists doomscroll their government away, all while duping people into giving them the power to do it.

While I can't stop using some of your services and products, as they are integral to functioning and have been integrated into life rather deeply - I can do a few things. No more Google Pay which I used all over the place, no more Chrome (switching to Firefox). no more Google Search, switching to DuckDuckGo. These are all revenue generators for you. I will continue to use products like gmail, maps, and Android but I will make an effort to cut back on anywhere I can stop giving you revenue.

Switching to Firefox, DuckDuckGo, and avoiding GooglePay is easy at least. I had tried Firefox before so no big change there, but this time I changed my default search engine in Firefox and on my phone to DuckDuckGo (Niagara Launcher) as well. Changed my default payment method away from google pay on a few places, like Chewy, the NJTransit app, and a couple other websites.
