First off,
is anyone here dumb enough to think that google really is listening to what is said here?
For the record,
I have used google voice in the past (maybe a year or so) and got tired of waiting for updates. In that time i kept both numbers around until google voice has matured to be good enough to use as a main number. Well that day never came because
google doesn't give a shit about products that really dont bring in any revenue.
I still use GV for voicemail, and have both my numbers, but it just sucks google is content with leaving the service the way it is. If you don't think so then i dont know what to tell you. Sorry for "ruining it for everyone else" by stating my opinion on google voice.
What a dumb mentality to have - If you dont like it just shutup and uninstall. No, I actually love the idea of google voice, but the TRUTH is that they have done just about nothing to improve it since they came out with it a few years ago.
Google intentionally gimped google reader and then killed it off - to the dismay of its small but loyal userbase (sound familiar?). Whats to say google won't kill off google voice? They clearly havent made it a priority at all. MMS support, and an upgraded UI should have came years ago. Instead who knows if theyll ever get them.
Can you cite evidence that someone here mentioned, thought, or assumed that Google is really listening to what is said here?
That's where you're in the minority. Those of us that use Google Voice today use it for it's current function, not because we're expecting some super duper magic update at some point in the future.
How much revenue does Google Translate bring? Google Earth? Google Talk? Google Calendar? Google CloudPrint? Google Lattitude? Google Reader? Where in their earnings report did you read that Google Voice doesn't bring in any revenue? Yeah, I guess when I'm calling my family members abroad using Google Voice, Google doesn't make any money off me for refilling my Google Voice account balance.
An even dumber mentality to have is "
Because you don't like it the missing MMS feature, shut it down for everyone else who does"
Not really because I don't understand what Google Reader has to do with Google Voice.
Do you want me to give examples of things that have been cancelled by Apple and Microsoft to the dismay of their small but loyal userbase as well? I can name plenty.
Not exactly sure what your point is in comparing Google Voice to Google Reader.
I use Google Voice for
all of the following:
1.) Visual Voicemail
2.) ALL text messages and voicemails automatically backed up to GMail (unlike other people, I never have to backup texts from my phone because it's automatically saved in my email)
3.) Calling foreign countries (it's way cheaper than using Skype or buying phone cards)
4.) Free SMS texting (that does not require me to start begging or convincing people to ditch SMS which they will never do)
5.) Call forwarding to multiple phones
