Even if it's really 230k vs 200k, it's a small lead and Apple won't have it for long. It's the same thing with PCs, an OS can't be #1 if it only supports 2-3 products from one company...

Anyways, they should stop fighting each other, Windows Phone 7 is right around the corner and I'm betting it'll be very successful.

Don't forget HPalm! I switched from an iPhone to a Palm Pre+. WebOS is the best mobile OS I have used. With new hardware and more apps, I think HPalm can be competitive.

I guess you forgot that Google's CEO was on Apple's board while Google was developing Android and Chrome OS to compete directly with Apple. I think he has a pretty good reason to be pissed at Google. I just think it was stupid that they waited until an SEC investigation to boot him off the board.

I guess you forgot that android was a startup that google bought before the iPhone was developed, or that Google's desire to get into mobile arose from their fears/concerns about Microsoft, and not as competition against apple...

I thought Al Gore invented the Internet! No Al Gore, no Internet (and no global warming...err I mean climate change)

 Al Gore never said that: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp

srsly dude, go away.

Sounds like a bomb.

Pretty sure Altavista invented the internet.

Actually, ARPA invented the Internet. I was poking some fun at Al Gore's claim that he invented the Internet because he passed a bill in congress.

Technically, they purchased Android Inc. before the iPhone came out, but look at when they started the Open Handset Alliance and actually released their first Android OS.

Sorry, he created the Internet, not invented. You can watch the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnFJ8cHAlco

Apparently you can't read. My link has the transcript of that interview and a clear explanation of the controversy. Gore made the nascent internet a pet cause while in congress and sponsored two major pieces of legislation that were crucial in the creation of the internet as we know it today. A lot of people had a hand in the creation of today's internet, not just ARPA, and Al Gore was one of those people. He took initiative in doing so.

And what does al gore have to do with any of this thread?

are you surprised? Jobs claims the ipod touch outsells the psp and ds combined.

guy can't even do basic math. 120 million is apparently great than ~180 million.

But really who cares. Its an apple event. its like any commercial. they spin stuff to make it sound good. like movies that claim #1 weekend. then quickly add genre.

I said it as a joke because of the "No Google, No Internet" comment. Didn't know I would find Al Gores cousin on here to defend him...hehe.

Sorry, idiots making stupid jokes about made up events are kind of a pet peeve of mine.

Made up event? I linked a video where Gore said he "created the Internet." You linked an article that says his phrasing was clumsy, he really meant...

Well, this could work either way. If they only go by the email address, then I only count as one, despite the fact that I've owned a G1, Droid, and Epic (+Android on HD2). However, I've "activated" dozens (or hundreds) of times with custom ROMs, many of which identify themselves in different ways. I wonder how I count in Google's statistics?

Like I said, if it is going based off on activation using a specific email address, no matter how many ROMs are activated, it would count as a single owner.
Think about official OS upgrades, and how many will wipe and flash and thus need activation again - if you use the same email address, it shouldn't be tallied.

Of course, this assumes Google is going by the books by using the gmail address.

He said that he "took initiative in creating the internet." This is a clumsy way of saying that he helped create the internet of today. His two bills did do that. Opening up the nascent internet to commercial traffic was a necessary step in creating the modern internet. But, apparently your reading comprehension is awful, so this is beyond you.

Get over it dude! I said I screwed up by putting "invented". You can define "created" however you choose though.

Move along folks...Nothing to see here...No joking around about Al Gore as long as preslove is policing the threads...lol

This started out as a simple joke that preslove blew way out of proportion. He already posted that link, which is an article about what Gore really meant when he said he created the Internet.

He did not say that he created the internet.

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

Pretty cut and dry there.

No, it can be interpreted in different ways. One way is that he took initiative while in congress in the ongoing creation of the internet.

Do you actually believe that he was claiming that while in congress he came up with the internet?

Also, before Gore's legislation, the internet as we know it did not exist. His legislation was instrumental in turning the existing network into the modern "internet." If you had to pick one politician who was most influential in helping to create the internet, as we know it today, it would have to be gore. Opening it up for commercial use was a necessary step in transitioning from the military & academic focused network to the commercial, public network that it is today.

So, they taking into account 2 annual launches?

I dunno about annual launches but I do believe it is all iOS devices. Which, to be honest, is not manipulating numbers because Android is going to encompass not just phones from many OEM's but tablet devices as well. Granted Android tablets are going still in its infancy but one has to assume Android apps will work on both phones and tablets.

Yeah, but the iPhone4 launch caused a huge spike in sales, and the iPad sales have been occurring during a time where the only android tablets for sale have been k-mart POS.

It'll be interesting to see this new quarter's sales. The iPhone 4 and iPad's halo period will be completely over. It looks like Apple is going to own spring (iPad in april) and summer (iPhone in June) sales, whereas Android will own autumn and winter.
