Sense and TW didn't have a problem back in GB or froyo. They all developed a problem under ICS. It's still not quite clear who is to blame but we definitely notice a pattern developing with ICS. But that doesn't matter. Google needs to work better with hardware vendors to provide a better experience on more devices not just google devices.

Lack of flash support is another major let down. Flash capability is the only thing that separates full desktop internet experience and mobile internet for a long time. And android having flash is a huge advantage over IOS in terms of internet experience. Now that we have hardware like Galaxy S3 that handles 1080p flash without a hint of lag and google decides to dump flash. Great move. Oh and those html 5 youtube vids are still performing like a$$ on my i7 desktop.

Wow. The ignorance in this post is astounding.

Sense and TW is everything that has to do with memory management. They include their own memory management routines that override the built in memory management. Even HTC admitted this with the One X. Touchwiz has one too.

And secondly, Google didn't drop flash, Adobe dropped mobile flash development. Give Adobe shit.

You are talking like Google can do no wrong. Like I said before it isn't as clearcut as pining the blame on every hardware vendor. Not especially when GB multitask fine with sense and TW. We can't really know who is to blame except ICS devices with 1gb have this problem.

I know One X has the multitasking problem but you're saying Galaxy S3 also has this problem? Any link? I can't imagine TW having the problem with 2gb of ram.
but the multitasking issues are because minfree is set too aggressively.

1GB is more than enough RAM for these phones. They just have to be configured properly.

i agree. i think they dont allow unlimited caching because they want you to grab the map live. cloud service is what google has always tried to push. they also dont want people to use old map caches that might have out of date roads or poi's. all that does is make people think the map service is crummy. and im sure advertising contracts have something to do with it too... youre not pulling in new ads if people are using old cache files.

that said, i wish they had a standalone version. even if they just kept a national map database that people could buy.... OR let us cache an unlimited sized space on the map, but those cache files expire after 30 days or something.
kinda curious how often Maps gets updated and what do you do if POIs get updated and stuff? Shrug.

Except you're wrong. I never said that Google could do no wrong. GB might be fine with sense and TW, but that doesn't mean that Sense and TW on Gingberbread are the same as ICS, which made all companies completely overhaul their skins and the new skins are completely different from GB.

HTC has specifically admitted that their new version of Sense has tweaked memory management and its logical to assume that Touchwiz has the same sort of management tweaks.

You Jelly?

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...t-it-only-works-on-io-galaxy-nexuses-for-now/

Well, we now have yet another reason to envy Google I/O attendees - a signed copy of the official Jelly Bean build has just been released on the 'nets, but it seems to only be working on the 'takju' (GSM) Galaxy Nexuses given out at I/O 2012 (or at least those GNs with the IMM30D firmware).

You can grab it for yourself right here, if you're interested in what's inside the 156MB ZIP. Don't worry, GN owners - we're sure with the appropriate modifications from the dev community, you'll be able to flash some version of this soon enough - not to mention the countless other goodies that might emerge. The real question is when this will be ported to other devices. And now we wait.

It doesn't matter. It's still between Google and Samsung/ HTC to sort out this problem. I know about min free settings. I have tweaked them on my one x. It doesn't completely solve the issue and may introduce lag. There's a reason why vendors chose those settings as default. Finally Samsung is Google's biggest partner you are saying as if they know nothing about tweaking their software. I am sure they are having to work with things that not within their control.

How big is your city!? I can do all of washington DC in one tile (pinch to zoom out )
Are you sure you updated to latest gmaps?

Weird, I was able to pinch zoom to an area that large but the "Done" button didn't appear until I made the map area really small.

Wow, just went in and tried again... yup, when I made it HUGE it gave me a "map area too large" message. I was doing it wrong, or it was just being buggy.

Well cool, that makes things simpler. I thought I was limited to ~10 MB (approx. 10x10 mile) squares.

takju is the EXACT same image as yakju except takju has google wallet. I'm just going to flash takju and then flash the file. Easy peasy.

*twitch*

Once the official OTA goes live, I'm going to urinate on the wall of the local Vzw store every day until they push it out.

You need imm30d image which shipped with only the very first batch from the Play Store. Finding the image is the hard part right now. It should be widely available by morning.

Initial report on Jelly Bean is it's noticeably smoother than ICS. Koush said it's almost iphone smooth.

I expect Verizon and Sprint versions of JB to come out weeks after the GSM versions since we know CDMA itself will take longer. Verizon will block Wallet and hold it for longer.

I downloaded the Jelly Bean cwm rom Koush uploaded on Rom manager so I'm ready to go. I haven't flashed yet and probably won't til tomorrow night. I need to make backup first before flashing.

ok. I installed 4.1 Jelly Bean on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. It wiped all my data including pictures. :(

Initial quick 5 minute impression. Like the new bootscreen, colors, and the look of everything. Jelly Bean is FAST. Everything is so fast and fluid. It's like ICS on steroids. Even with Live Wallpaper, it doesn't lag anymore. Browser is even faster and smoother. Went to TheVerge full site and it scrolls and zooms in and out like butter. Galaxy Nexus with JB feels faster than the Samsung Galaxy S3.

So... didn't get around to that backup or you didn't include pictures? Anyway, I'd like to hear any updates with any notable battery life changes after a few days. I'm not expecting much of a difference, just like to know that battery life isn't going backwards at the expense of smoothing out the OS.

Flash works! I was able to download Flash from the Play Store and install it. And it works just fine. :).
