I wouldn't put sensitive data (financial, personal, etc.) on any 3rd party cloud storage system be it Google, Dropbox, or whoever. I will be using GDrive though, I have plenty of non-essential files that I would love to have access to everywhere (currently have ~3.5GB with Dropbox, but it's just not enough).

Ill use it, why not. I don't put sensitive info on any of my Google service, and I really don't care that they target ads toward me. If it ties into my gmail account even more effectively, I'm all for it.

Maybe I’m missing something here, as I don’t deal with this kind of thing often. Doesn’t Microsoft’s Skydrive give you 25gigs? Other than the M$ is evil crap, OMG Google is so awesome let me give them all my business, is there some reason this is better?

Microsoft won't support android in any way. There's an iOS app for skydrive but no android app. I believe there is also limitations on file sizes and other things.

Sky drive allows you to upload a file as large as 1gb on the applications and 300mb on the website

With Win8, it's going to be tightly integrated into the OS as well. I'm really looking forward with what Microsoft does with Skydrive in the next year or so.

nice, and 5GB too, but scared of how much they'll be crawling your files. I'm a huge google-everything user but personal files are personal. Not feeling that way about Dropbox.

This is what encryption is for. It does not have to be strong encryption, for them to even break a rot13 encryption would be illegal.

While I'll happily use Google drive, I think they are missing the mark a bit here. Evernote is what they should be aiming at with this. An Evernote style information organizational system that makes use of Google's search ability, integrates with Gmail and the host of other information collection tools Google already has would be a game changing power app.
It could bring personal data mining to the masses.

For those of you that are afraid of teh evil Google crawling through your CPs... eh... I mean your "personal" files. First, you create a TrueCrypt volume (using an empty file about 5GB ;)), then you cut a hole in the box, and you put that file in that box.

Google need to step up their rebranding and streamline the way some of their services work.

Remove pictures from G+ and rebrand picasa as Google photos. Make it sync the same way as G+ though.
Fork youtube into Google video and sync video the same way it does photos and music.
Add both those services to the google home bar and more tightly integrate it all into Android.

I like poking fun at G+ because it goes to show that having a gazillion dollars can't buy you a userbase.

It offers a great unlimited photo storage/sharing service though. I don't see why you have the level of angst about it that you display.

Yea the free unlimited photo storage is all I use Google+ for. It's great for that. I just have my Galaxy Nexus auto-upload at night, plus I uploaded about 8GB of pictures from my computer.

I can see rebranding some of their products but rebranding Youtube doesn't make sense. It's name is too well known and it is faster easier to say than Google Video or even GVideo.

Thats why I said fork it.

Upload all your phone video to Youtube in the same way G+ uploads to picasa. Its pretty much there already, if I play one of my uploaded videos in G+ the interface looks very much like youtube its just that I cant go to youtube and find my videos there.

This is good news, already love love Google Docs. And no I don't give a dam about google's data mining, I don't put anything sensitive up there anyway.
