No update on my T-Mo phone yet. Makes me wonder if they have stopped it to fix stuff that has popped up since the first phons got the update...

I'm not sure why I even got the update pushed to my phone. I would have gone back if I could because my battery and idle drain have become worse.

If they keep packing in redactedbatteries, the Pixel is a poor value at its MRSP. ;)

My pixel has really good battery life. I'm not a heavy user but I easily get 2 days on a charge when I'm at home on wifi. 1 full day if I'm using nav, and traveling.
I don't think anyone is paying retail for any phone anymore with a major carrier. My P6 was 99.00 with a new line and everyone is giving away iPhones if you switch or get a new line. I think we are back the the good ol days of free phones with 2 yr contracts.

Are you in the US? I don't think the major carriers have contracts now.

Unlocked device from Google got delayed. They gave me $100 credit to the Google store. No Christmas T Mobile service for me. I get $99 in credit for buying the Pixel with my Google One account, plus the $100, looks like I'll be upgrading my old-ass Ring doorbell shortly.

Some people on the AC forums sideloaded the update on their Verizon phones, said their phones are better than ever. I'd rather just wait.

Some also reported that they opted in to the Google play carrier services beta, installed the beta, then cleared data in carrier services app and they had better signal.

Yeah, not a contract for service, but for the phone. I pay 4.12/mo for the phone over 2 years but I can always pay it off anytime and go to a different carrier. But I heard that the T-Mo and verizon versions have different antennas so you are somewhat stuck. At any rate, where I live, all the carriers suck equally so there's no real incentive to jump carriers unless they are giving you a phone for 99.00.

I've been in that beta for a while. My Pixel 5 has the same mediocre reception with the Verizon sim in it too. I think just their network here has gotten worse. Perhaps it has something to do with the C band upgrade and it will get better. There is 5GUW band a block from me and I can barely get a regular 4G or 5G signal in my place.

I tested my battery out with toggling off the mobile network and staying on wifi yesterday. I'm on the December update which was pushed to my phone on the 14th.

With the same usage I ended my work day with more than 60% battery life. With wifi and mobile data on I would normally be at 50% or lower.

Obviously running on wifi only isn't feasible especially when I will have to go back into an office.

Folks on AC and the Pixel subreddits seem to mostly be enjoying their battery life. There was one setting that was mentioned by a few that really helped their battery life and it had to do with a mobile signal related running service. Check them out.

Unlocked P6Pro shipped from Google today. So one week delay netted me a $100 credit. That is quite nice. Waiting on my rebate to be approved from Verizon anytime now, then I'll switch to T-Mobile for a few months - if I don't use much data, I'll just go to Mint Mobile.

Just read someone said they went in and turned off 2G in their Network settings and that helped battery life a lot

I actually factory reset my phone and set it up again after my December update. I'll measure the battery from now and see how it is in a few more days. So far it seems alright on wifi but mobile data is probably worse.

Not sure why the phone would even go to 2G when LTE is available everywhere. Unless you go somewhere where there is absolutely no signal or you end up roaming.

2G is supposed to be turned off when being provisioned but sometimes it is left on by mistake by the carrier. It can affect the way the phone looks for networks.

I am trying to remember what the other setting was for mobile connectivity that saved a bunch of people battery life. You had to go into settings and search for a service and disable it

I think the setting you are referring to is in developer settings. It's called mobile data always active.

It keeps mobile data on while you are on wifi so it can switch over smoothly. I remember one time I turned this off and I could not send or receive sms and MMS while on wifi.

Also if you use wifi calling and you step out of wifi range while on a call with this setting turned off, your call will drop.

It's not that. It's literally searching for a name of a running service. I was surprised it was something google let you do.

You are on Mint Mobile right? Do you like the service and customer service?

I'm on MetroPCS which is owned by TMobile. I've been with them for so long because I also pay for my mother and my sister's lines and it's the cheapest option that gives unlimited everything for $90/month.

I've heard good things about Mint from some friends. I think it may be owned by AT&T.

Also a girl I'm dating was over here a couple times, with Verizon, on an iPhone, also terrible service. In this case it's not the pixel, it's Verizon. Since it's apple and a very walled off system, it's not possible to install an app that measures the dBm like it is on Android, but she had 1 bar and had difficulty loading basic webpages at times, she commented how bad the service was, then i suggested my WiFi password.

Well it looks like Google has officially stated the December update has been stopped being pushed OTA. It'll be combined with January's security update which will come LATE January for Pixel 6 series

I personally dont have many issues besides the cell reception being spotty randomly. If I was someone who has a lot of issues and had to wait until late January, i would push to return the phone at this point.

Switched to GoogleFi tonight. It's nice to have an actual reliable signal in my place and neighborhood vs Verizon. Sure I could get 5G UW outdoors in a few places, but duck into a store and the signal went to shit.

I do wonder what service would be like when they switch on C band spectrum in a few weeks but I do like T Mobile is on 600mhz and other lower frequency bands that have long range and good indoor penetration.
