Looking like the average for cars with the same miles and such around is about $14k...not sure exactly how the insurance thing works. I have another grand into the stereo (was able to salvage a lot of it), then it had modifications. Anybody know of exactly how it works, or how it has worked in past situations? Police report said estimated $6k of damage...I think there is a bit more than that.

if you dont, the guys at that yard will, as soon as you leave from getting "your stuff" out of it

I actually talked to the guys at the yard, older black guy who owned it, they were cool...we looked at the engine and it could easily be salvaged, he said it didn't look like there was any big frame damage if any, but it was probably gone.

Be prepared for a battle. The insurance company will likely want to give you a check for far less than what the car is "valued" at on the open market. They also will not add in anything for modifications. Just get examples of similar vehicles and be prepared to show them what an actual replacement will cost (minus mods, they won't budge there) and let them know you won't accept less.

Will they know what I paid for my car? I got a very good deal on it, so it is a good amount below BB value...I will do that though. I found one I want here, a year later but with more mileage...close to the two I found that matched mine (except for year) here and here.

From what i've been told, what you paid is irrelevant. The insurance should be for getting it replaced. The only way they include mods is if you pay for an appraisal and get agreed value insurance.

That car is gone. No doubt about it. I bet the body work alone is more than the total kbb value. Looks like every piece of the body needs to be replaced. I don't know what the cop was thinking with the 6k estimate?

Yeah..not sure. I suppose they have to do those quick estimates though so they have to put something.

KBB says $12,510 in good condition. We'll see.

Front fenders are, hood is as well if it's an SS. I believe the doors are metal.

For owning one of these cars, you sure don't have your facts straight on them 😉 😛

Front fenders and the bumper are a urethane plastic. Hood is fiberglass if SS, the smooth hood is steel. Doors are fiberglass (with metal crash bars for reinforcement). Rear quarters are steel. Rear bumper is urethane plastic like the front.

So tomorrow I call insurance, hoping they offer me a sum that isn't worth arguing with. Also already have interest in the engine/trans out of the car if I can get it for a decent cost from insurance.

Hmm, my doors held a magnet so I assumed they were metal. Plastic/fiberglass, meh. What's the difference! Close enough. :awe:

Might have been sticking to the metal reinforcement bar or a window rail.

I'm a little CDO (OCD, but alphabetized like it should be! :awe🙂 hence why I had to be so picky over the material 😀

Probably caught a door bar.
