I have it and got to the second world so far. It's tough but it's a fun platformer. Does remind me of the original on SNES.

The only thing I'm not used to is when you jump and land on something the characters are very prone to sliding off. Pretty sure this is how it was ages ago on original DKC. Also, rhe musical score is great.

The 5 minutes I played of DKC, the controls did feel a little more floaty than I remember the original one being.

What type of battery life are you guys seeing with the system? Sometimes before bed I'll take it out the dock and play a game and notice the battery drops pretty quickly. For example I played dkc for close to 30-40 min last night and it went to 70% left.

I didn't turn it on airplane mode since I was using the joycons and the switch with it's kickstand. Dkc is much easier to play with the joycons and motion on as some of the button combinations for my hands are too much as I have big hands.

I turned off auto brightness too and keep it about 25-30%. Last time I played Mario it dropped to 60% in about a little over an hour. I guess it depends on the game?

It definitely depends on the game. The only games I play portable are simple games but my fiancée will play everything portable and she kills the battery in a few hours.

Makes sense just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong. I bet if I play with the joycons attached and that low of a brightness, it should last longer.

I got about 3 hours or Mario and Zelda on flights before it died. Those are pretty heavy games I'd assume. Brightness probably set to like 75% with headphones on.

Played DKC for 2 hours on flight to Bahamas. Game is great and yes, it's pretty challenging which is refreshing. I only got to world 2-3 or so. Didn't play for 2 hours straight because of my toddler son but played most of the time.

Donkey Kong is just great. Fantastic gameplay & fun graphics. The Switch's hardware enables the game's visuals to really shine. It's not a perfect game, but it is pretty enjoyable if you're a fan of the DK franchise. Haven't figured out if you can throw Player 2 or not. Good basic review here:

Kirby is cool, but is made more for really little kids. A bit too simple.

Looking forward to Smash.

Nintendo rubs me the wrong pay with their pricing, though. They want $60 for a four year old port of a game that was only $50 in it's inception. Who the hell else does that?

Have you gotten to the water level? I played the boss like 3x and don't know if I ever want to go back to it because the control in the water is bad in that game.

I like playing Cranky, the old dude with the cane, because he can bounce super-high & also bounce over the spikes. In the water, however, after you do like a water-surface jump, he automatically reverse-dives waaaaaay deep every time. I hate that! I think the controls could be a lot more polished for the water parts, for sure. Also, doesn't look like you can throw player 2, which is one of the most fun parts of team play! Bah.

On the flip side, the game looks great & is pretty fun, and the 3D parts, like shooting through some of the barrels, look fantastic. I think it's pretty fun, although my wife is pretty hardcore on DK in general & hates the controls on the Switch version & is annoyed at a lot of the functionality, so it depends on how much you love the franchise historically, I think.

Yeah you know what, playing it a couple hours in now, it's more like playing a leveler like Mario rather than a Donkey Kong game. The whole fun of DK was that it was stupid-hard at times, but that you had these really fun controls & combinations available to solve the different parts of it, like being able to bounce from bad guy to bad guy to kill them, or throwing your teammate as a weapon.

I still can't make it past the owl boss lol. I remember the old donkey Kong games I got pretty far. The controls sometimes get in the way. I find it easier to use the joycons than having them attached.

Yeah this is why I was left scratching my head when people were hyping the game. It’s not even a new title. Plus I’m over 2D platformers at this point. Counting all the indie titles there is an over saturation of them.

110% agree. I feel like Nintendo games should be $29, tops. Pricing should match the console price. If you get a $59 game from Steam, you better be getting something dang special for the money, you know?

That analogy makes no sense. A top end PC is well over $1000, even into the $2000 range. A Switch is $300. So if a game should be $30 on Switch, that means it should be $100 - $200 on PC.

EDIT:

On another note, anyone interested in Mario Aces? I'm looking to sell mine for $40 shipped.

Nah I think $50 for a big title is fine. I do not think a port of a game from years ago should be full price though.

There may be a billion indie platformers, but virtually none of them hold a candle to Nintendo's best stuff. Sturgeon's Law is still in full effect here.
