Someone who finally "gets it"...that is, pointing out that critics crying about the sex and violence in the XFL are turning a blind eye to Hollywood. In fact, taking "artistic masterpiece movies" like Gladiator and Hannibal and comparing it to the "lewd and crude" WWF...as the author points out, in comparison to those two movies, the WWF is indeed Little House on the Prarie.

But those movies have ratings to protect it from the young...anyone can flip on the TV and watch the XFL. That analogy is irrelevant.

What difference does it make if it's on FREE TV or not? I mean, the sex in FRIENDS or ALLY MCBEAL, and the violence on something like Martial Law easily surpasses the XFL.

Eh, I think most of the hooplah over the XFL is that it's a disgrace to the sport of football. OK, maybe not the game itself...but the way they present it, aiming solely at the younger crowd (a typical wrestling fan). The hits in it kick ass.

How is it a disgrace exactly? The only difference I see between the XFL and an NFL game is that the ball is a different color, the camera angles get in close and within the locker room, and there's a JUMBO tron in the back. Otherwise the cheerleader "coverage" is equal to that of a COWBOYS or LAKERS game.

I mean, how much can you "disgrace" football? A stereo type assumption on it by anti-football people are that it's barbaric, and it's about nothing more than big 300 lb guys hitting each other as hard as they can. And the cheerleaders wear no more clothing than those in the XFL (save on really cold days).

:::sigh:::

GoldenBear, did you even stop to think where that article came from? Since you like the XFL and WWF, you may need some thinking time so here's a hint: it came from NBC.

What did you think they were going to say? The XFL is a disgrace?

The source of the article does not change the fact that his views and opinions are good and well-stated.

Just because someone supports something doesn't take credibility from their views.

It's like in a religious/political discussion, obviously the opinions and stances will differ according to their personal position, but does that take anything away from what they actually say?

Golden Bear..........what I think Champo was trying to say delicately was: you don't crap where you eat, hence someone writing for NBC will have little to no negative statements to make about the XFL. This is akin to Pontiac executives being given those damned ugly Aztecs to drive and boast about.

Personally, I tried watching the XFL.......got real tired of hearing "Wow....what a hit!" over and over, yet did not get any talk about what the play was, why it worked/didn't work, or any other anylysis of the game. Just kept hearing how hard they hit in the XFL......as if the NFL doesn't hit hard, which they do in spades (just ask any NFL QB who has had repeated concussions from being hit, or Ed "Too Tall" Jones, or Warren Sapp, any other NFL player).....and interviews of players who had little constructive to say......just old chiches repeated over and over. The commentary will have to get much better.

One point about the article you referenced.......his comment

<< If you put these cheerleaders into a Dallas Cowboys cheerleading outfit, does it magically add class to the act? >>

, I'd answer yes to that. The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, like all NFL cheerleader organizations, have written standards of conduct that must be accepted and a contract signed, which include a dress code, not dating players, etc. Nope, not magic, just requirements and standards for becoming one of them. Rules and all....

Just an observation.......

Whatever... who cares if some think it's a disgrace or whatever... the point is, now we are able to watch football for almost the entire year! If the XFL was on during the NFL season, it would die a quick death, and for having the stupidity to even try competing, you people should then ridicule it. However, I'm quite happy to have some football to watch during the NFL offseason.

Besides, it's relatively young, let them work out their kinks. I wish there was a way to disable the commentary... but the sounds on the field are awesome...

Did you guys here what happened to a paraplegic during a XFL game? Check this link out here.
I think it's pretty sick to do that.

Geez...that's rough. Even the worst NFL fans, Philadelphia, aren't that bad. Just an effect of the type of fan that is drawn to the XFL/WWF.

<< hence someone writing for NBC will have little to no negative statements to make about the XFL >>

You mean as opposed to all the unbiased reviews on the XFL? Articles that say stuff like..

"For however much longer the XFL lasts, there?s really only one scorecard worth keeping. It?s the one that notes all the sellouts who lent their names, careers, reputations and consciences to this predictably unmitigated garbage"

And I still don't see why the fact that it's on an NBC site takes credibility away from it. It's the POINTS he makes that matter here, and there is more to it than what other columnists say about, "The XFL sucks and is degrading because it is filled with sex". The thesis of the article (which is stated in the title) is that supposedly professional columnists are being hypocritical in what they say about it. And his points are quite valid from what I see.

<< yet did not get any talk about what the play was, why it worked/didn't work, or any other anylysis of the game >>

So you don't like it. That's fine, and your reason for not liking it is much more valid than most of what I normally hear.

<< have written standards of conduct that must be accepted and a contract signed >>

Yeah, XFL cheerleaders sign contracts too

<< which include a dress code >>

Compare a Cowboy cheerleader to an XFL cheerleader and explain exactly what you mean..

The difference you mono-brow is that in the NFL the cheerleaders are not out there to sell sex. They are they to cheer the team and lead the crowd in doing so. The XFL cheerleaders are nothing but glorified strippers.

<< Just an effect of the type of fan that is drawn to the XFL/WWF. >>

That's easily one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. You really don't mean to tell me the actions of a couple guys are going to represent the millions of people that watch it every week?

Yeah, you know what, a guy in San Jose tried to totally murder his entire college class, I guess that means all San Jose people, and people that go to college are evil.

<< The difference you mono-brow is that in the NFL the cheerleaders are not out there to sell sex. >>

I take that first statement back, this tops it in stupidity..I didn't realize there was a prostitution conspiracy in XFL games. Tell me more about this.

<< They are they to cheer the team and lead the crowd in doing so. >>

Riight, and looking like this has absolutely nothing to do with it?

<< The XFL cheerleaders are nothing but glorified strippers. >>

From what I've seen, the clothes they wear at the beginning of games, are the same clothes they wear at the end.

arod.........I cannot believe that article.........that football fans would toss a guy in a wheelchair onto a concrete floor and then pelt him with beer and cups. Then the paramedics had to protect themselves from the fans? Sheesh .... what were these punks thinking ...... or is Euro soccer fan behavior what is to be expected from XFL fans?

Guess it was the paraplegic's fault tho......there were more than enough empty seats in that stadium......both endzones were completely vacant as were most of the rest of the stadium. j/k

I didn't say they were striping during the game you XFL lap dog. Look at the way they "dance" while they "cheer" most of them are still doing their pole moves and look like the trashy sluts that they are.

At least the NFL cheerleaders do just that. They aren't out there just wiggling around so Joe Six-Pack can get a view of their camel toe and therefore be distracted from the horrible football on the field like the XFL girls are.

<< both endzones were completely vacant as were most of the rest of the stadium. >>

1) They don't sell tickets to the corners of the field, and neither do the USC Trojans when they play there.
2) The LA game had 30,000 people, and almost completely covered (if not completely) the rest of the stadium.

Whaaa??? I don't think so...that stadium holds like 80,000 people at least.

Yeah, shiner's right. It actually sat a little over 90,000 for when the Raiders played there.

GoldenBear, if they obviously were able to fill those seats, they would mount, or place the jumbo tron somewhere else, perhaps farther up so everyone can get a better view.

And don't give me any **** about it either. Why does a sporting event need two jumbotrons? Are the fans too stupid to hold their attention to one screen?

Want to know the truth? Here's what happened in the XFL offices...
"Well, we overestimated the number of tickets we'd sell at the Coliseum, but this can easily be fixed by adding some jumbotrons. The fans will never know the difference, and hey, they like TV screens, so this is even better!"

I thought this was discussed in the other thread..

Have you ever seen a WRESTLING ARENA? Yeah, there's a TITAN tron set up there which basically eliminates a few thousand seats which would otherwise be behind the entrance place thing.

And you won't tell me the WWF would have a problem selling out THOSE seats at a show would you, and they put that up as a result?

And you won't tell me that the XFL is sacrificing ALL of those seats for a jumbotron or two? Would you please just put some logic into your head?

When arguing with GoldenBear, he tends to forget about the parts where valid points were made. For your sanity, I suggest that you refrain from arguing with one who lacks abilities such as simple logic.

Ah, the 3 musketeers, we meet again.

<< And you won't tell me that the XFL is sacrificing ALL of those seats for a jumbotron or two? >>

If your point is that the XFL isn't capable of selling out a 90,000 seat stadium, then we do agree on that point.

But neither can USC. And to have the same seating arrangements as USC is NOTHING to be ashamed of.

<< But neither can USC >>

I believe that they have in the past and they routinely have 60,000+ at their games.

Ahhh...GB...how we love your irrational support of the XFL. I always knew that all those years selling Super Sugar Crisps had to rot your brain back when you were Super Sugar Bear. Then I bet when POST changed the name of the cereal to Super Golden Crisps and and thus forced a new identity on you that your mind couldn't take it and just snapped. It's natural to revert to a childlike state in such an instance so I now understand your love for the XFL and the WWF.
