Hey but XFL was/is built up to be this great game! If the WWF can sell out stadiums and arenas, why can't the XFL?

Getting 25,000 season ticket owners before the season ever started by fans who had absolutely no idea what they were getting themselves into isn't too shabby at all IMO.

<< If the WWF can sell out stadiums and arenas, why can't the XFL? >>

What?

<< ATTENDANCE.................... 401371 >>

But, OMG, using Champ's logic, if the RAIDERS can draw 90,000 why can't the TROJANS?

I give the Trojans 2 more years before their football team is gone.

Same question be asked as to why so many people want to the league to die.

I simply posted an article that I thought was good that discussed how hypocritical sports columnists can be about the XFL.

I'm a lifelong Raiders fan and hated it when they moved to LA. While they were there I don't remember them ever drawing 90,000 fans. In fact they rarely had above 50,000. The Coliseum was not designed for football and is thus much larger than most NFL stadiums. They are in the process of renovating it to where base capacity is 60,000 but can be expanded to 80,000 if need be. Why the coliseum history lesson?

Because the XFL is suck!! They can't even fill 1/2 the smaller stadiums they are in much less a huge one like the coliseum.

GoldenBear, ever get the feeling you're backing yourself into a corner with each of these posts?

But, OMG, the Raiders are a PRO team and the Trojans are a COLLEGE team. Two separate things, yet they share a football field.

Tell me, GoldenBear, did you ever stop to think that the Trojans cater to the college crowd? Meaning, that the general attendance will be students and alumni? And that the Raiders crowd will be residents of Los Angeles and fans that traveled a good distance? There are several colleges in and around the LA area, but there were only two PRO teams, and even at that, selling that many seats was pretty damn good when you look at it. Actually, when you're comparing the XFL to a college team, it seems like you're taking a last resort.

Actually, comparing the XFL to a college team has its merits. I forgot who mentioned it, could be a friend, could be a commentator, but from what I've seen, the fans of the XFL reminds me of the fans of college teams. The overall craziness of everyone. The way I see it, NFL fans are a lot more reserved. Anyway, didn't some XFL games have bands playing? All the more to add to the college atmosphere.

Anyway... who cares, enjoy it while it lasts... it won't ever be as popular as the NFL, but it's football nonetheless. And football in any form ROCKS!!!

And did you know that it's nearly impossible to get tickets for a Nebraska, Oklahoma, or other major college team? So your argument that college teams don't get support is waaaay off..

<< Actually, when you're comparing the XFL to a college team, it seems like you're taking a last resort. >>

How so? College football is damn popular, and in many areas it's more popular than the professional team.

The article states it nicely at the end, where it says..

"Even if the XFL eventually drops to a 3.0 rating, the league will be profitable. Unlike other professional leagues, the XFL salaries look like those found in a Kathie Lee sweatshop. The USFL?s demise was because of the multimillion dollar costs being incurred to pay NFL-caliber talent such as Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Doug Flutie and Herschel Walker. Barring a lapse in McMahon?s usual sound business strategy, the XFL will continue to be another cost-effective way for the network to make money through another kind of reality television.
Still, Ebersol is considered as evil as ?The Simpsons? Montgomery Burns for doing so.
Love it or hate it, the XFL will stay around for as long as it wants to. The salaries are capped and the ratings are decent. The laws of supply and demand are met.
As for those in the media standing on their high moral soapboxes, welcome to the world of American business. Whether it?s the XFL, ?Temptation Island? or an investigation involving a president?s intern, the line between sports, entertainment and politics has not only been blurred, but completely erased.
Get used to it."

And as DC says, football is awesome. As long as you have 11 guys with padding on two sides of a football, and their goal is to either run or pass their way toward the opposing endzone, me, and many others, will watch.

Goldenbear, there will always be those that are gonna ridicule, and those that think themselves 'above' that kind of 'low brow' entertainment.... Whatever.

There's things I don't like about the XFL, and there's things I do like. The fact is that the league presents (in some ways) a breath of fresh air from the NFL which is pretty much choking off any "fun" in the league with dumb rules.

Either way, the XFL is in it's infancy, they have a lot to learn to make their product better over time, and they will do so. Even if their ratings drop below a 4 share, they'll still have better ratings than some NBA games.

<< the NFL the cheerleaders are not out there to sell sex. They are they to cheer the team and lead the crowd in doing so.

LOL Are you smoking something? Yeah, the NFL picks their cheerleaders for their intellect and sense of humor :p

He wasn't making the argument that college teams don't get support. He was saying that they normally, except for some teams, don't get the attendance of NFL teams. That's why most college stadiums are smaller. Way to twist someone's words, ever thought of going to work for the Democratic National Committee?

Yes, and the difference is these guys average ~$50,000 a season, while the guys in the NBA make about FORTY times that much.
