My "People's Choice Ideal Weight" seems a bit on the high side.....besides it doesn't take frame size into account so I think you could find better.

The Met Life website gives the following instructions to estimate frame size:

"Bend forearm upward at a 90 degree angle. Keep fingers straight and turn the inside of your wrist toward your body. Place thumb and index finger of other hand on the two prominent bones on either side of the elbow. Measure space between your fingers on a ruler.(A physician would use a caliper.) Compare with tables below listing elbow measurements for medium-framed men and women. Measurements lower than those listed indicate small frame. Higher measurements indicate large frame."

ELBOW MEASUREMENTS FOR MEDIUM FRAME
Height in 1" heels Elbow Height in 1" heels Elbow
Men Breadth Women Breadth
5'2"-5'3" 21/2"-27/8" 4'10"-4'11" 21/4"-21/2"
5'4"-5'7" 25/8"-27/8" 5'0"-5'3" 21/4"-21/2"
5'8"-5'11" 23/4"-3" 5'4"-5'7" 23/8"-25/8"

Hmmm.. the "people's choice ideal weight" says I should be 5 pounds heavier than I am but looking in the mirror and at clothing I feel I should be 5-10 pounds smaller.Frame size obviously isn't factored into this site.My current BMI is 19.5 though so I'm on the right track.

In the MetLife table there's a weight range based on frame size.

Wow, a BMI of 19.5 is pretty low. I'm at 22.8 and wouldn't want to get much thinner.

Are you sure you aren't being too hard on yourself?

I think the forumla is actually pretty easy, from the Kellog's Special K cereal people if you "can pinch an inch" you are overweight

MY GAWD!!!!!

I am supposed to weight 132-174lbs according to the Medical Recomendation???

WTF? That is more than half my weight! On top of that, it is just about half the weight I have ever been!

161-184lbs according to the MetLife tables for a Large frame? BS!!!

These people are smoking something illegal..... :(

No.... This is crazy. I know I am overweight, but gawd dam it! When I was 250lbs, I was in good shape. (Not ripped mind you, but good shape.)

But I guess I just break their scales. (all puns intended.)

I'm at the ideal weight for my age and height but I'm in the 17th percentile. That means that 83% of men my age and height are heavier than me!

I think that as a society, our perception of "average" and "fit" has been skewed upwards.

That may be true Riprorin, but I doubt I could ever hit 180lbs.

I seriously doubt I could make 200lbs without a major life threatening illness, or severe "augmentation" surgery.

Like I said, I was at 250 once. I was working out every day, and on a 2000 calorie diet. (One I cheated on almost every single chance I had, and still managed to loose tremendous amounts of weight.)

Since then, my muscle mass has increased (along with my body fat) and unless I am specifically working out in some fashion, I hover around the weight I am at now.

Yes, I could use to loose 20 - 100 pounds. But I have to spend all my free time to do it.

And before anyone mentions diet (as in food intake, not restricting my food intake) I do not over eat, and while my selection of food is not great, I do not overdo the "bad" things. (Like candy and ice cream and such.)

So, while modern science tells me I need to be under 180lbs, I spit in the face of modern science and tell it there is no way in hell!! :D

20.7 and I have a gut I need to lose, and I should apparently be at least 10lbs heavier than I am.

It says I should be about 158; I'm actually 168-171 (depending on phase of moon, etc.).. but I'm not fat; I have a muscular build.

If you can pinch more than an inch you need to buy a Kellog's product?

Hmmm.

I really hope you aren't basing your weight loss on this "test".
