I say this because if you're adding lean muscle, your weight will go up as muscle is heavier than fat.

Perhaps it would be better to have a goal based on physical measurements such as measuring your biceps, chest, waist, etc.

By focusing on weight only, you run the risk of losing muscle mass, which is probably not what you want to do if your goal is to look your best.

Actually I base my goals on a combo of weight and clothing size.I clean up quite nicely and have started getting some noticible all over improvement .Of course, having help and support at home is most helpful,I have my off days but overall my diet is pretty high in lean protein thanks to the b/friend who does a lot of the cooking and supports healthy food purchasing choices.

Just stay away from sugar, white flour, processed foods, and starchy fruits and vegetables and eat sensible portions and you'll be fine. I don't gorge on fat, but I don't avoid it either, except for trans-fats which I will not eat.

My point in showing the pics is that you can be healthy and look decent without being in the 98 - 99 percentile.

I guess if you and BF like the anorexic look, more power to you.

You may want to track your weight and your BF to make sure you're not burning lean muscle.

Good luck!

I'm only 4lbs under the "ideal weight" but I'd much rather be 20lbs heavier and have that much to work out with.

Hmmm.

I really hope you aren't basing your weight loss on this "test".

I'm 5ft 9 and would like to weigh around 120.

To each his own, but thats pretty sick IMO :) too many fall into the "image" of what society says they should look like. IMO if a woman is 5'9 and weighs less than 130-140 :(

My mother is one of those thin as a rail people, she's 5'5 and 110lbs... I dont know how someone could be 5'9 and 120 without looking like a skeleton.

Ok rant off sorry about that :0

BMI 26.7, 6'2 215

What alot of people need to realize with a BMI reading is that it doesnt differentiate between muscle and fat. I think arnold used to have a BMI of like 37 or maybe higher, but you can bet he was in shape :)

You know,I said nothing negative about your appearance or your fitness goals.I kind of resent you calling my goals "anorexic" simply because I aspire to look better than most of my non-celebrity age peers who are in fact FAT I wear something like a size 5 1/2 ring,I have to pass on a lot of shoes because I need a narrow size,I'm a tall but fragile looking type who looks simply stunning on the smaller end of the weight scale.I'm basing my goals on my knowledge of my body type and I can assure you that I'm not even close to appearing "anorexic" BMI is a useful general indicator of healthy weight but as we've seen from the multitude of responses in this thread stating that the given BMI's don't work for them,BMI doesn't fit every person or their frame size.

Aye, if you fall into the tiny tiny frame category, then I can believe that 120 would look ok :) my previous post was just referring to most small-medium boned women.

Good luck with your goals everyone :) I need to make more time for mine. @ 19.5% body fat right now, trying to get down to 14-15'ish (going by my weight/bodyfat scale at home)

You certainly know yourself better that me.

Obviously, there are exceptions to BMI particularly with respect to body builders. In general, I believe it's more suitable for women than men I suspect because men have more variability in muscle mass.

I hope you achieve the look that you are striving for. But, most of all, I wish you good health.

Best Regards,

Charlie
