This might go down as the most successful season in Rockets history since Hakeen won his last championship. Why? Because injuries to TMac and Yao gave a team who should have won 50+ games a spot in the lottery. Remember when an injury to David Robinson helped the Spurs land Tim Duncan in '97?

Now they are a ping pong ball away from adding Rudy Gay, Adam Morrison, or Tyrus Thomas to an already talented team. None of them may be Duncan, but they are all very good players who could give the Rockets a chance to win a championship this decade. Maybe they could parley the selection into a veteran who could help them win it all next year. Go Rockets.

yeah but they didn't make the playoffs, right?
I am not glad the knicks sucked so badly this year for the same reasons.

this was the wrong season to have injuries. There is no franchise type talent in the draft. Next year is the year. The can't miss All-NBA player greg oden will be coming out. This guy has been projected as a top player for years now. I expect a lot of teams to tank if they get a rough start to the 06-07 season.

GO Yao!

but Tmac's back probs scares me. The Rockets were 10 games above .500 w/ tmac and yao in the lineup. If they would've finished 10 games above .500, dam they'll be fighting for a 5 or 6 seed.

First off, Yao has to be one of the most overrated players in the NBA of recent memory.

Second, the Rockets will go nowhere if TMac and Yao can't shake the injury bug. Both have been riddled with injuries over their careers.

What have you been smoking? Did you watch basketball this season? Stat-wise Yao is the best center in the entire league this season, Shaq included. You don't call a guy who averages 20/10 overrated.

yeeehaaa! :D Isaiah Thomas is great for the league...not his team nor his owner, but great for the league. :p

At this point the rockets should start hedging on a Tmac suppliment (ie future substitute when he retires in a year or two.)

Even tho I think Adam Morrison will be the MVP of the league in the near future (of the euro-leauge that is :p), the rockets should look to someone like rudy gay imo. If they aren't into hedging against tmac, then they should look at Tyrus Thomas imo.

First off you are wrong. Yao has averaged 22.3 points and 10.2 rebounds this year. He was steadily improving this year with stretches in the second half where he averaged 30 points and 15 boards.

Compare his numbers this year with:

Kevin Garnett 21.8 points and 12.7 Rebounds
Tim Duncan 18.6 points and 11.0 Rebounds.
Shaquille O'Neal 20.0 points and 9.2 Rebounds.

His numbers stack up nicely to any of the three and he definitely belongs in the same group with these players.

Secondly, Yao has not been riddled with injuries over his career. Before this year he only missed 2 games in his NBA career. Tracy has had injury problems in his career and his back problem does look to be chronic. I do believe the Rockets need to start thinking of a replacement like Rudy Gay to start grooming.

You obviously didn't watch any basketball this season. Yao improved immensely after coming back from toe surgery. After the All Star game he averaged 25.7 pts/11.6 rb's. No other true center in the league approached those numbers. Not Duncan. Not Shaq. Watch some more basketball before making comments you know nothing about.

They won last night which hurt them in the long run. They will prob get a 9th or 10th pick and none of those players you mentioned will be drafted that low.

you crazy Yao has been playing with a hurt toe ever since he came to the NBA and when they finally fixed it. After the all star break he was avg 25.7pts 11.6 rebounds 1.84 block shots 54% Field Goal 88% Free Throw and thats only playin 35 mins a game and taking ONLY 18 shots per game!! If he took 10 more shots a game like Kobe does he could avg 35+pts a game!!

Yeah, but not much of one

1. 250 combinations, 25% chance of receiving the #1 pick

2. 199 combinations, 19.9% chance

3. 156 combinations, 15.6% chance

4. 119 combinations, 11.9% chance

5. 88 combinations, 8.8% chance

6. 63 combinations, 6.3% chance

7. 43 combinations, 4.3% chance

8. 28 combinations, 2.8% chance

9. 17 combinations, 1.7% chance

10. 11 combinations, 1.1% chance

11. 8 combinations, 0.8% chance

12. 7 combinations, 0.7% chance

13. 6 combinations, 0.6% chance

14. 5 combinations, 0.5% chance

theres a huge dropoff in percentages at around #9

as long as tmac and yao can stay healthy next season it won't matter who we pick up in the draft.

You're only half right. Tmac, yes he's been injured before. Yao have not had injury problems before this season.

Also if you've followed Yao after coming back from toe surgery, you'll know he's now considered a top big man in the league. Yao had multiple 35+ pts, 15+ rebound games the second half of the season.

not quite, but he has been a monster since he came back. in two years time, he might be a top 5 player if he keeps improving at this rate.

The Rockets are about to cause an international incident since Yao needs to sit out a few months to rehab his foot (ever since he got that infection in his toe corrected, he has been on a TEAR!). The Chinese team wants him for the World Championships this summer, but his foot will not have fully healed by then.

Yeah, the Texans were dead fscking last this year, too, but that means they get first dibs on the college guys (hello, reggie bush, welcome to the worst team in the NFL).
