Now that I've tried Cazadores, while it is good, it's maybe a little better than Sauza to me; Not as good as Don Julio or Patron. Not as smooth.
BTW, the Herradura I had was just labeled Gold (still have it), which I assume is Añejo. But I think I mentioend above, I didn't like it. Didn't like the flavor, and not smooth enough.

I'd like to try the El Tesoro Añejo, but haven't seen it at the fairly large store here, and I can't mail order since I'm in Tennessee. Proabably goes for HomeBrewerDude's recommendations also.

ever tried a $50 bottle? high end tequilia, neat and sipped at room temperature is so smooth I can't believe anyone who is open to the idea of drinking distilled spirits would find it offensive.

Uh, someone already said that in post #2. Drinkers of good Tequila are likely to say the same thing about your whiskey.
 
Since the better tequila's are 100% agave, I was looking at Sauza and noticed their three regular tequilas (Blanco, Extra Gold, even Commemorativo) don't say 100% agave (at least on the website), but their Hornitos and Tres Generaciones Anejo and Plata (silver) do. I haven't tried these three, their better three. How are they?

By law, tequila is only required to be composed of 51% sugars from the Blue Agave plant, and the rest can come from any other source. Hence, Jose Quervo (I cringe when I say that word) has 49% sugar cane sugar in it, and the fermenation byproducts of sugar cane sugar with the tequila yeasts results in a bunch of byproducts that spell hangover hell. What you need to be drinking are tequila that have "100% Blue Agave" written on the label.

I noticed Quervo 1800 doesn't even say it's 100% agave.
 
my favorite tequila is tres generaciones. followed very closely by patron gold. in fact, i always have those tequila's stocked in my cupboards. i love them so much, my friend once accidentally spilled a shot of patron into my lucky charms, and since i hate wasting alcohol, i had patron charms. 😀
 
Well I'll be gettin' me some Tres Generationes then. I never knew it was such high quality.

The Cazadores I got was Repasado since they were out of the Anejo, and as I mentioned it's a little harsh. Is the Anejo better?

I got very sick off tequila once, and I haven't been able to drink it since then. Makes me sick just to smell it. My Dad loves Tequila, he seems partial to patron.

trmiv, I did get real sick on screwdrivers way back in my high school days and couldn't drink them for a few years. I eventually got over it though. But I'm glad that's never happened to me with Tequila. I try to make sure never to drink too much to get sick on it.


 
cabo wabo is great, but i fricken hate sammy haggar so i drink 1800 when i want to throw up in my back yard
 
Personally my vote goes to Casa Noble. However it's very hard to find since the U.S. distribuitor only covers a handful of states.

Hornitos is good but not great. For the price its a good value, but the quality is not as good as something in the 40$ range. That said, Hornitos does pass my minimum bar for what constitutes a quality tequilia; you will enjoy sipping it, neat, at room temperature. I would recommend this tequilia if you are going to serve it to people that may want to mix it, or shoot it. If you and your friend are going to sip it, then go ahead and spend the extra 15$ and get a top shelf line.

Chinaco is good stuff.

I have had many silvers that taste better than the aged stuff.

I like Montezuma... goes down easy enough, clean enough to not give me a headache the next day, and $26 for 1.75 liters. When you drink a lot the price is important 😛 Worst I've had was Juarez.

anxi80, I wish they sold liquor at grocery stores here. And being in TN, we can't buy any from mail order stores either. I wonder if I bought one off ebay, if it'd make it through the mail though.


rstove02, thanks for the tip on Casa Noble. Looks like I'll have a little drive to get it by the bottle here in TN (can get it closer by the drink). The US distributor also distributes Cabo Wabo.


Montezuma tequila? Isn't that the cheapest you can buy?

You don't need lemon or salt when you are drinking good tequila. To me a good Tequila tastes a little sweet and goes down smooth. I also like the buzz from it better than any other Hard Liquor.

 
Patron Anejo, with a lime, and kosher salt. So tasty...

Cuervro 1800 is good for tequila that is readily availible in my area. And much cheaper 🙂
