Good Tequila?

I'm looking for some other good tequilas I haven't had. Someone told me Cazadores is good high quality tequila, so I might try it next. How would you compare it?

My favorite as of now is Don Julio, but it's expensive, and the bar I frequent doesn't carry it. When I don't have much cash or am at a bar that doesn't carry the best stuff, I'll drink Sauza or 1800.
I haven't tried Cabo Wabo yet, partly because of price, and not wanting to risk it always bought Don Julio instead. How does it compare?
What about Patron?
A friend liked Herradurra a lot so I got a bottle but don't care for it too much.

I've tried the usual not-so-good cheap stuff - Two Fingers, Jose Quervo (bleh), Montezuma (gag!), etc.

Also, do you usually get Añejo, Reposado, silver, gold, or blanco, etc, if there's the choice?

I wish I could buy the expensive stuff cheaper online, but I live in one of the damn states that doesn't allow alcohol mail order (TN). So I can't get in on the wine deals either.

Update: supposedly good tequilas mentioned in this thread, plus a few other links:
(note: many of these require pop ups enabled to get past their age check)

A few other tequila websites (recommendations, theory):
http://www.ianchadwick.com/tequila/buying.html - a very good article (mentions a $1000 bottle of tequila!); mentions the change of 1800 to 100% agave which explains why my older bottle wasn't 100%; also that Tres Generaciones used to not be 100%; Good tips & info on that and the other pages on the site.
http://www.cigaraficionado.com...ate/0,2344,743,00.html - another very good article, with good tips. Article obviously not current since a few things have changed from what is says.

I have a bottle of cabo wabo and i like it alot. Sauza also makes a decent tequila, cant remember what it is but typically if its 100% agave you cant go too wrong. I liken Patron Silver towards the vodka types because its so clear and the typically tequila taste isnt as present.

Patrone is good stuff but Teq. has gotten way to expensive lately. I remember when Patron (which is better then DJ) was only 30 bone. JDub02 is right, go buy yourself a bottle of Makers Mark or Elija Craig.

Cabo Wabo is incredible tequila even though it's a bit expensive. I highly recommend it. No need to use lemon and salt to kill the flavor. It goes down smooth and tastes tremendous.

Agreed. Tequila tastes like a cardboard box.

<spits out peice of cardboard>

Sounds like someone is drinking cheap ass Jose.

Tequila is like a woman, you may not like the way all of them taste, but keep trying... you're bound to find one that'll go down easy and make you relaxed.

side note- my previous advice was based upon drinking the tequila straight up no mixer or salt/lemon

I've tried, I just can't get a taste for it, (Tequila that is), I'm more of a whiskey & vodka drinker, on the rocks, only way to go.

I think people drink it because it's #1) cheap and #2) they love doing the 'process' commonly associated with it.

I asked the bartender for good tequila, and she said all she had left was Cuervo. Having never tried it before, I said "That'll do". Big mistake...:disgust:

Well this guy bought a friend and I two shots of this Tequila once at T.G.I. Friday's. I can't remember the name tho. It was in a small nice looking bottle that looked sort of like a crown. I think the bartender said it was pagaddo? I can't find anything remotely similar. It was real smooth and the shots were like $10 a piece so I know it was some good stuff. If I find the name I'll let you know.
