he talked about FFIII so im guessing he's looking for a console-ish rpg on the pc...so i'd say ff7 and ff8 (ff7 is better)

well If you dont mind bad graphics I would suggest you would try Geneforge; it's a shareware game made by Spiderweb Software. The graphics arent the prettiest around but the gameplay and the story are just great! Besides Geneforge costs only $25

Geneforge can be found at

I need to buy a gift for my 30 year old nephew who loves to play Diablo. I think he already owns Balder's Gate but he seems to prefer to play Diablo.

Can you suggest a game? He played the demo for Chris Rock to the end and seems to like that even if it's not an rpg. Any suggestions?

Inspite of all this he is pretty smart so maybe that will also influence your recommendation.

Another vote goes out for Fallout 1 & 2 - you can find them at a local BestBuy for $10 (both of them) - it's old, but the best PC RPGs I've played IMO.

Freedom Force kicks ass, too! Notsomuch 'RPG', but fun nontheless.

And as for MMORPG's, I've heard phenomenal things about Dark Age of Camelot.

Agreed with the Freedom Force recommendation - great graphics, excellent atmosphere. Only complaint was that it was WAY TOO SHORT!! It's the only PC game I've finished this year, but highly recommended!!

Icewind Dale 2. Freedom Force is very good if you're in the proper mood for a comic book based RPG. Gothic gets a "thumbs up" too though I'm not very far into it.

I'm playing Gothic 2 right now as well and I am really enjoying it. Excellent looking environments with TONS of vegetation/foliage (a forest in a game that actually looks like you are walking through a forest) and nice draw distance. I loved the original gothic and was happy to finally play part 2. Too bad they didnt really improve the controls but I was so used to the controls in the original that I dont really mind. Definitely recommended.

Planescape: Torment is also a fantastic rpg that is beyond superior to the other D&D stuff (like baldur's which bored me to tears) because of the fantastic characters with great personalities that are fleshed out in the storyline. Gorgeous game that I also recommened.

Wait for Knights of the Old Republic to come out. Then you won't need to ask this question anymore.
