Beware that Dell uses proprietary PSU's and the only decent manufacturer that can offer a quality exact replacement fits the DELL schematics is PC Power and Cooling.

I'm not sure...I have a rosewill 500 watt powersupply, lasted me almost 2 years now, no problems...i'm gonna upgrade my computer this summer to a quad core, same ati 1900xt, dunno what mobo yet, 2gb ram....you think i need more than 500 watts?

Yeah, Dell used to use proprietary connectors and everything, but they've reformed since.
 
ok this is related. My Pc Power and Cooling 850W Power supply just bit the dust and I am having to replace it. My system is fairly old but I am running 8 hard drives so it needs a lot of power. I ran the power supply calculator at eXtreme and it says I need around a 685W power supply. So Im looking for a good power supply that wont break the bank around a 750W or larger so I can put in more hard drives.

I saw a COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro RS-850-EMBA ATX12V / EPS12V 850W at newegg. Are cooler master PS's any good? its cheap and below $130 after the rebate.

Dude, that PSU comes with a 5-7 year warranty. Call PC Power and Cooling; they should send you a replacement. Possibly the 1KW model.

EDIT: Many of those PSU calculators are totaly out of wack. Back when I had my P3 with 4 hard drives, several of those said I needed a 730 watt psu but my 430 worked fine.

Each HDD needs about 10-12watts on start up then about 8-10watts to keep running. Average about 10watts per drive and thats only 80watts.
Video 85watts (approximate, your results may vary)
CPU 80watts
Motherboard 25watts
DIMMS 2watts each (FBDIMM is much higher)
FANS 1-5watts
DVD drive 12-18watts.

Estimated Total 222watts. 1 video card, 1 CPU, 2 dimms, 2 5w fans, Motherboard, DVD drive. Power consumption may surge above 222watts during the initial POST screen but quickly settles down once the drives have reached speed.


 
For years I have been using Fortron Source power supplies. I have yet to have a problem with any of them. I can't say that about Antec or some of the others I have purchased yet the very first Fortron Source AT power supply still works to this day. If you open one up you will see why. Quality parts and weight - a factor that can often be used alone to judge a power supply (usually).

Keep in mind that a bad motherboard can short circuit the power supply, sending it to an early grave. Get in touch with PC Power and Cooling for a free replacement.

Dood call PC Power & Cooling and they will replace it for free!
All there PSU`s have a 5 or a 7 year warranty!

I wouldn`t even be looking at a Cooler Master PSU when I could get a new one from PC Power & Cooling.
Hell they will send you a new one brfore you even ship the other PSU! Then they will pay for you to return the PSU!!

Fortron is a very descent PSU!!
But then again it`s not a PC Power & Cooling PSU!!

I can attest to that. My 1KW-SR is makes larger PSUs look puney.
