I use Musicmatch Jukebox, but I like AudioCatalyst too.
Try MP3 Pro too
Winamp only plays MP3... but it´s the best.

the best one I found so far was SimpleMP3 - I don't have the link now, but look on google for it.

It has excellent quality.

Try a little program called FREERip mp3. It is small and does everything you need to encode cds into mp3.

Workin' wrote an official AnandTech FAQ that answers this very question. Essentially, the best solution is to rip with Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and use the external LAME encoder to convert to MP3.

use CDex, its free and it uses the LAME encoder to get the highest quality files, and its not all bloated like musicmatch or realjukebox

Ugh, Freerip MP3 :| I d/led it and when I tried to rip songs they skipped like mad. So then I found CDex, it works great :)

<< The best way is what Maetryx said, however for ease I would suggest using AudioCatalyst. >>

Maetryx is right. However, AudioCatalyst is a poor ripper unless all your CD's are brand-new and the Xing mp3 encoder is an insult to humanity. It's demonstrably and clearly inferior to ANY other encoder available. Please don't use it, and if you do, please don't share the files.

The latest version of EAC has "wizards" and everything. It's so easy to get, so easy to set up, so good, and so FREE that there is no reason to use anything else. You'll also need to download the executable LAME file, links to everything you need are in the CD Ripping FAQ.

No.

<< Try dB powerAMP >>

Why waste your time with second-rate solutions? Just get EAC and LAME. They are both free, simple, and "best-of-breed".

Do you have a URL for EAC and LAME?

<< Should put that URL in the FAQ as well. >>

It's in the CD Ripping FAQ. It's also linked from LAME's site.

You can if you bought the optional MP3 encoder for Nero. However the encoding algorithm is not as good as what's recommended in the FAQ's. Please read the FAQ as suggested in about half the posts in this thread. A link is in my signature line.
