good or bad idea to live with your best friend?

my best friend (of 6 years) and i are planning on moving in together in a couple months when we turn 18. we think that it will work out great because we get along really good and there really isnt anyone (besides our bfs) who we think we could stand living with. however, everyone we know says that moving in with your best friend(s) is a bad idea.

what are your thoughts/experiences?

Very, very bad. I lived with my best friend last year and really ended up resenting him. We're good friends now, though, since we no longer live together.

Edit: And I'm a dude...I can't imagine a couple catty ladies trying it. 😉

Generally a bad idea, particularly when those bfs come into the picture. Not only that, but no matter how great you get along, you'll find things that annoy the living hell out of each other. Like, for example, when one person likes to get up at 5am and bang cabinet doors and whatnot. Plus conflict about who gets to watch what on tv..

well i dont want her bf living with us.. i would go crazy. they are both WAY too loud and annoying together.

i dont watch tv though so shell use the tv ill use the computer 😛

I did it with my best bud in Mississauga. Of course, it was a four bedroom house with a barroom, living room, wrech room, our own bedrooms (obviously) seperate music room (one of hte bedrooms) and a seperate computer room (although we each had a system in our own rooms.) It was such an unfair advantage when playing tacops online with the clan. We could just look at each other's monitors. It was like cheating 😀
That worked well because we had TONS of space. You could just completely avoid the other guy with no trouble if you wanted to.
Also, with my 2003 Mustang GT supercharged at just under 400Hp and his 98 Z28 Camaro, it made for some fun evenings on the town although we did almost kill that little girl that one time...
heh...
Uh, yeah. But that's guys and we can have a fight and have it out and be done with it.

This is a very bad idea for you.

dont do it. im not trying to preach, but moving out for the first time is a big shock, no matter how prepared or smooth you think it will be. ive seen many friendships go down in flames from the strain of trying to adjust to splitting bills and the sharing/mooching/hoarding of household goods and chores. my best friend and i wanted to move in together when we were young, and we both say now we are glad we didnt. we love each other, but we seen what can happen now, and its not worth the risk when it comes to a true best friend.

maybe just move in with some casual friends that you know are trustworthy. that way you could make more great friends, or if you lose them, youre not losing your best friend.

Usually a bad idea - but it's a better solution then moving in & marrying your bf, right? 😉

(I *think* you're the same chick that said this . . .. If not you can ignore this post . . ..)

moving in with and marrying my bf in a couple years 😛 well maybe moving in sooner

Very, bad idea.

You'd think it'd be a great idea. You then realize that the reason you too get along well is because of the time you DON'T spend with each other.

bad idea IMO, but that doesn't mean it can't work out. It can work out, but it will take some serious effort and if you're best friends, I wouldn't put this extra pressure between you two.

My best friend and I are sharing an apartment and we're doing just fine. No problems whatsoever. Although I hear that it's a bad idea for girls to live together. I guess it just depends on the person how well you can get along in these kinds of situations.

well then why ask for our opinion when you've already made up your mind?

i havent. im just saying that us being female shouldnt affect your opinion. the point is that we are really good friends. are we going to ruin our friendship?

also, i have another question... wouldnt this be the same as moving in with your significant other? maybe thats why the divorce rate is so high 🙁

"are we going to ruin our friendship?"

Probably.

"wouldnt this be the same as moving in with your significant other? "

NO! One woman is very difficult in a living situation. Two women together...forget about it.

Not unless you get "intimate" with your best friend...
