Essentials for the arctic crap:
Arctic expert: Take your gun with you, put your bulk roll on your gun and take a shovel.
Hammond: Take your gun to the loo?
Arctic expert: Absolutely. All the bears love to creep up on you when you're taking a crap and you've got your trousers down.
Hammond: That's not exactly sporting of them, is it really?

Yeah, he worked his ass off while the other two sat in a "warm" car and drank coffee and such. And to think a year ago he was in the ICU.

I agree. I don't think anything offered anywhere else in this world on public TV can match it.

Hopefully they'll be reviewing and showing some new cars as well and not just dog sledding to the north pole.

This was a one-time special. Not the start of Season 10.

yea, esp compared to fifth gear. I like Tiff better, but the show's just so damn bland.

Definitely, and I dislike the fat guy and HATE that asshole Jason Plato. Sadly, Fifth Gear is still better than most American counterparts - Car & Driver TV sucks, and Rides is insanely dull.

I was amazed at what transpired (how resilient the men, dogs, and machines were) but I have to say the episode as a whole was not up to par with previous races. Maybe also because all we saw was just snow, snow, and more snow. I should've just grabbed the 350mb version. :D

I just saw this yesterday, it was pretty freaking great.

Just two problems with it:
-they raced to the magnetic north pole, not the geographic north pole and the difference was not stated very clearly. Now, a 600km+ race north from Resolute is not trivial, but going to the geographic north pole would be much much harder.
-The end. Jeremy's an entertainer, not a scientist. He should stick to entertaining and leave the science to people that know wtf they're talking about.

I was in tears when he was thrown in the water. When I saw that I was like ok, no way they are going to jump in, they'll crack a few jokes and act like they know what to do... then he was pushed in.

Agreed, though "the fat guy" (Tom Ford) writes for Top Gear magazine (if you can't beat em, join em) and I like his car reviews in print.

Tiff used to do reviews for Top Gear, way back in the day before the current version of the series. But back then, Top Gear was duller than even Fifth Gear.

That was pretty good. I really feel bad for Hammond though :(. Some of the Icelandic tricks are well known to anyone up in the snowbelt. The rocking, and lowering the tire pressure was something they did in WW2 on the beaches.

Regardless, I love the show, and I tip my hat to the whole cast, and an extra one for Hammond, because as someone mentioned he was in the ICU less than a year ago fighting for his life, and now look at him. Going to the north pole on dog sled.
