SC2 will always mean Starcraft 2. No other game with the SC2 acronym is as important(except maybe Star Control 2 but that's not in this genre).

Started Warcraft 3 tonight. Got through the little Prologue part, where I'm Thrall? the orc dude. I did what the voice told me to do (the tutorial voice =P), but I'm still just a tad lost. I guess there's a good bit to learn. I had been playing Baldur's Gate 2 a lot recently, and I'm trying to find correlating UI functions in WC3 that I was familiar with in BG2. Like how do I select more than 1 of my controlled NPC's other than dragging a box/square around whom I want to select, or maybe that's about the only way. I just need to get comfortable with the UI first, then I'll probably do fine.

Well, i like Comand and Conquer series, Age of Empires, Commandos... Some war games make me define some strategy, put the troops around the field and i like that!

Total War Series
Definitely turn based. Although the battles can be played out in real time.

My recommendation: play at least one older RTS to understand the basics of management without getting overwhelmed by multiple resources and complex trees. Then try a newer one. For older I recommend Red Alert 1. For newer, Warcraft 3 or SC 2.
