Great movie for sure. Certainly heavy handed with the Racism. Every Character is a caricature of a Racist from their particular Race/Religion/Creed, then they all end up confronting each other and ultimately themselves. It's like a bunch of Short Stories on the subject all mashed together into a Movie. Not really believable on the whole, but each situation is believable and the Story just works in a powerful way.
I agree, I'm sure a lot of ATOT people hate it because it's trendy to hate popular shit. I'm sure if it hadn't won an Oscar and wasn't even a popular film they'd mostly be going "OMG great movie!" but since it was so popular, successful and won an Oscar it's instantly crap.
I thought it was pretty good and had a couple scenes that were almost perfect.
Nah, it's just that people overreact when they feel wronged, even if it's vicariously through something as stupid as Crash winning best picture over their pick. Instead of saying "I didn't think it deserved best picture", they spew a bunch of profanity before proclaiming it the worst film ever made - as if Will Ferrell, Mike Myers and Adam Sandler don't exist. Even if you don't like it, there are aspects of filmmaking - directing, music, cinematography, editing - that are separate from the script and that an unbiased critic must give credit to. The script could be about a guy discovering a new brand of lawn fertilizer, if the film is well made it still deserves credit for that in the form of perhaps a 5-7/10 rating even if the plot makes it unwatchable for anyone without a lawn fetish.
