Good, Evil, Nuetral...

I usually play through the game as good. I dont know why, I just feel bad about killing innocent people. if the game is really really good, then I'll play through a second time as an evil character.

I used to play games as if I were the biggest douche, killing innocent NPCs every way possible, blowing stuff up, shooting puppies, nowadays I almost always feel inclined to be good, I guess I matured or something.

I usually play good aligned characters, but partly because a lot of games penalize you for being evil (like bounty hunters going after you, storekeeps refusing to do business with you, inability to advance the plot due to you killing critical characters, etc).

I do remember playing an evil character once in KOTOR though, and I've gone on killing sprees in BG and the Elder Scrolls games for a bit before reloading the save.

There needs to be another option. I tend to play evil characters in MMO's but I roleplay them out to be good guys that were just born to darkness. Thus where my name was born.

It feels completely unnatural for me to do evil things in video games (like killing innocents, or even killing anyone if they pose no threat to me), so I almost always play as a good character. Even when I set out to be an evil character at the beginning of a game, by the end I am always one of the goody-two-shoes characters that draws the ire of the evil groups that I was trying to work with.

I play as a good character (I've tried evil after multiple playthroughs on a couple games but never get very far.

I know I'm not a "good" person in real life (my alignment test always comes out true neutral I think) so playing a virtuous character lets me be "good" in fantasyland anyway.

I will, however, play through Baldur's Gate as an evil thief the next time I play.

Same here.

prettymuch the same

I generally play good guys first, but I will replay games, assuming they are decent, to try out a different vantage point.

Although I kind of prefer playing the Infected in L4D, which I would not have expected.

I tend to be someone who plays to "get the job done". Meaning I end up usually just on the good side of neutral.
But I will play through multiple times to see everything.

I'll usually play through the game being good the first time I'm playing through it, then play evil the second time through.

I used to be the same way, but then I turned to the dark side . I played fallout 3 as an evil character and had tons of fun selling innocent people to slavers, robbing everyone blind, and just causing mayhem. I think the evil path is done poorly in all Bioware games. It feels like they designed all their games with the good path first, then tacked on evil options on all the quests that don't really make sense.

It depends. Usually I pick a persona before I start and try to play through making the choices that they would make. When I played KOTOR, I played it super-good, but when I played Oblivion I was completely neutral. Mass Effect I was a tough as nails, no funny business soldier. Witcher, I try to be neutral, but I feel more human than non-human. Vampire: Masquerade I play as a complete psychotic. Although there is no role-playing in it, my favorite game persona is still Garrett from the Thief series.

it's just more fun to kill evil players - there is a sense of accomplishment -as if I've rid the virtual gaming world of the scum that needs to be removed [just finished watching Righteous Kill - that's about how I would sum up my character - good with a side of evil when it's necessary]

This. I'm afraid I will miss stuff if I take the evil path.

I love playing as good the first time around and then I go back and try neutral or evil.

Besides, the "good" ending is usually the canon ending.

I'll do both if the game is good enough, but what I really prefer is just being a douche. This character type isn't quite evil, but certainly isn't good. For the major plot choices I will probably do 80% good, 20% bad, but for less important scenarios I will be bad 80% of the time. By the end of the game I'll have saved the world but have but pissed tons of people off. Imagine if Dick Cheney stopped aliens from taking over the planet ("Wow, I'm glad the world is safe but that dude is an ass."). I really liked Mass Effect because it let me play as a cocky asshole without being really sinister.

Recently all I have done is play as the 'good' guy as I feel guilty going around killing people for no reason. Back in Kotor though I did play the Dark side and it was fun, but with recent games like Fallout 3 I feel like a major douche, not to mention if I go round headshotting everyone I may miss out on any quests that they'll give.

Mostly good. Though I did play bad in KOTOR1 after I beat it as a good guy. That actually weighed on my conscience a little.

I tried the Dark Side path in KOTOR, and I never touched any "evil" or "bad" sides in any other games ever since. It's God damn boring to just kill everything that moves, if I want to do that I'd rather play Serious Sam, Painkiller or DOOM.

I play through as good as evil tends to eliminate side quest options. i.e. you randomly kill John Doe and then you can't access the side quest he would have given you if you had helped him. I usually play through a second time as evil, though. In KoToR II, I played good for all quest/chat decisions, but I used primarily dark side powers as the group chain lightning > all.

the problem with playing the evil side in bioware games is that you end up being a mindless psychopath who wants instant gratification. what about the evil characters who manipulate people or who are in it for the long term?

that said I am way more comfortable playing the good side.
