Good-bye?- Anandtech

Is the forum just going to disappear as well?

The forums will still be here. There is an announcement on the front page
If I read the article I linked to correctly I believe the forums will still be active.

This is so sad. I discovered AnandTech during a PC build I was doing in 1999. I've been a member of the forums since 2001. I've referenced the knowledge and advice here from articles and the forums for every build since.

25 years is a long time.

I HATE video content now being favored over written content. It appeals to short attention spans and cannot possibly be as in depth as needed. When video does attempt to go in depth it takes hours to get to the relevant information you could have found in minutes in a written article (I'm looking at you Gamers Nexus). I don't want to be entertained about tech, I want to be informed. I want reference material, not tech sitcoms or droning speeches.

Goodbye, my old friends. Yes, I know the forums will remain open... for who knows how long though.

Agree totally on the written word Vs video thing. Sometimes videos make sense, I'm trying to work out what new case to get and some of the video sites are helpful (Gamers Nexus ironically enough) but I don't need a video of a GPU review!

Back when the site was having the troubles with connectivity I put together an emergency Discord:

It's not in use cause... Discord.

But the invite link is above. Might be a good staging area in the event this site goes down.

Same, I started coming around here in 1997 or 1998, I believe. I started working on the AnandTech news team in 1999 IIRC. At the time, I was a freshman in college, and Anand plucked me from these same forums because I was always posting tech news stories. He asked, how about you get paid to do that same stuff? As a broke college kid, I couldn't refuse. Those were the days, it’s sad to see it go away.
