It wasn't bad back in the 90s but last time I ever went, I saw a couple that were both wide as a refrigerator waddling side by side and I told my wife we're never coming back here again or we'll end up like those two.
Never been back

Seen that video few days back.

Never went there, but this is no different what many food places do. It's called reality.

Now you see why we eat at home 99% of the time.....

Thank goodness they did not give in to buying the video. I at least applaud them for that.

That franchise has only been open less than 6 months, I was planning on going there soon, it's about 5 miles from here, What the issue was is you cant thaw frozen food at room temps, it has to be in a cooler, the inspector probably walked in unannounced and they had to put it out of sight fast. That being said it's FL, it's July, and it's 90 degrees by noon, bad idea. The company's response that they in fact "threw all those items away" is because they got caught, if the cook hadn't put up the video it would have been cooked and served. A list is published regularly showing what restaurants were fined, and how much that fine was, sadly, many restaurants are indeed fined in central FL..

I think he was trying to sell it on Ebay, trying to sell it to management with the threat of making it public if you don't "buy" it is extortion, a felony. The father could have forwarded the vid to the county health inspectors if he was really that concerned, he was trying to make some quick $$, he's as much as a slimebag as the GC manager IMO..

The last few times I went to golden carol the food was nasty.

The very last time I went there the food was so gross I called a manager over to my table and complained.

Not surprised at all.

The last time I went to a not-chinese-buffet buffet restaurant (Old Country Buffet, iirc), the entire place just smelled like overcooked, rotting food.

Look: I'm not bigger than my refrigerator, but I'm no skinny little fitness barbie either. If fatty's gonna fat, fatty's gonna fucking enjoy the ride, dammit.

Ate there once a few years ago.... never again. It was terrible.

Sanitation varies wildly from place to place, I found this out when I used to work for Swift meats and did deliveries when the regular driver was on PTO or they were swamped. I stopped at a local pizza chain (4 area stores), part of the delivery was ground pork for sausage making, being in the meat industry I can tell you ground pork is very unforgiving to warm temps but the store manager had me plop it in the middle of a 100 degree kitchen,(I'll put it away later" he told me, I even offered to do it for him, NO!, just leave it there!. OK asswipe, whatever. Some of the Chinese places were really, really bad. One I stopped at an old woman was in a back porch area rolling up eggrolls, flies were everywhere, she had more hair on her armpits than I did on my head, same story there, just leave it there, (in the middle of the kitchen), Some kitchen were clean and orderly but that was the exception, not the rule..

If the food was 'nasty' more than once, why would you keep going back?

I've been to one once, in general I try to avoid buffets, the only one that I've liked going to was an Indian buffet that we have in Little Rock.

I went to one years ago and it was horrible, nothing I tried tasted good, and mean NOTHING. I was amazed at how they could mess up everything they made.
Then I went to one here last year and it was awesome. Everything was fresh, and very, very good.
Additionally, I was smart enough to realize that when I saw a morbidly obese couple eating there at the same time I was that it wouldn't confine me to the same fate.
People make up the most ridiculous statements sometimes.
That's like saying "I saw a guy at the bar that was soooo drunk he shit himself, I'll never drink here again!"

That's true, it's just that the temptation at an AYCE restaurant is sometimes difficult to ignore, then you get the "$11.95?, huh, I'll make sure I eat $20 worth!". There's a Chinese AYCE buffet near us, seems pretty clean, new building, great food, they used to have crab legs as part of the deal for $12.00 but people went hog wild on the leg's, so they would only bring out so many at a time and you better be quick or you were SOL. Once they brought some out a hulking woman took over 3/4 of what was there on 2 heaping plates meaning the other 6-7 people in line got squat, everyone (including me) was slinging nasty comments at her as she walked back. Now the crab legs are a separate item, you pay an extra $3.99 if you want 'em which I agree with.

I'm not surprised. Golden Corral seems like the main buffet style place that's still around. There used to be like 5 different ones, Sirloin Stockade, and I don't remember what the other ones were (in this area), and all of those closed due to issues with health inspections.

It might just be from me being younger but back in the 90s it seemed the buffet places were better, cleaner, better food. I used to love eating there back then, now I can't stand to go to one, unfortunately sometimes I get stuck with older people that love buffets. And then of course they have to stare and point out all the weird people there so they take like an hour to finish eating.

Only been to one with my sister's family. Crap food in an annoying environment. Never been back.
